In honor of Chicago making the 2016 Olympics Candidate shortlist, Major Daley is hosting an Olympics and Paralympics "Citywide Celebration" at Daley Plaza today at 11:30 a.m.
The last Olympic celebration at the Plaza, when Chicago was named an Applicant City, went like this: many speeches by politicians, athletes, and what-have-yous; inspirational Olympic videos that made us dab our eyes a little; and cannons exploding red, white and blue confetti as a dramatic finale. This time around will probably be much of the same, but with increased vigor, since the 2016 Olympic bid is now that much closer to our grasp.
Update: Hmmm, have received word of high Secret Service activity at the Plaza. Could Obama be making an appearance?

Extra, Extra

@Amy
I think you meant "cannon" (unless the confetti comes from the shredded pages of literary masterpieces.)

Well if you saw a tall white guy with a white short sleeved button up shirt, sunglasses on my head and green shorts, that was me.
Just sayin!
