Obama, Daley, Emanuel Rally For 2016 Olympics

For our lunch break this afternoon, we headed down to Daley Plaza for the Chicago 2016 rally to celebrate the city's being chosen as a Candidate City. The rally featured a bevy of athletes and speakers, including a special appearance by Chicago resident/Illinois Senator/Presidential Candidate Barack Obama. The new logo was unveiled as well, and it's...exactly the same as the last one with the Olympic rings added to the bottom. Here are some pictures we snapped of the festivities before the rain hit.

What thrill. Was there today too.

I didn't dare take a pic of the secret service guy who was hanging around us, though he looked pretty badass.

rahm emanual is so sexy.

anyway, i was watching this live on CNN (sad, i know , instead of biking the 3 1/2 miles to see it with my own eyes). during Mayor Daley's whole speech the newscaster was talking thru it, and then it was ALL OBAMA-RAMA on cnn after that.

no one cares about da mare!

Go Rio!

I for one did not listen to a single word out of the mayor's mouth.

Nice pictures!

I got there late (on purpose), just for some jerk chicken, but I did catch the beloved Chicago Cub's Homeless Negro Mascot Ronnie Woo Woo (in full uniform) always ready to shuck, jive, and tap dance to entertain him some white folks. And did any one else think there was some thing endearing about the women dispensing free shots of ice tea off the two tall glass canisters on her back?

I second Rio!

That last show of Daley is AWESOME!

I swung by too. It was cool to finally hear an Obama speech (albeit a short and somewhat mediocre one) in person. Good stuff.

I want to know what Rahm was telling Obama in that one shot...

Benjy - I don't think we're supposed to know. Like "Lost in Translation."

I was there also, I felt like a little girl when I saw him. (I am a man, obviously not a strong one though)

You know, I just got to say it:

That is one damn handsome Democratic nominee we have there.

Mayor Mumbles was actually OK. I didn't hear anything too indecipherable when I was listening on the radio. I hope we get the games.

If Chicago had mayoral term limits, Daley would be our own Frank Rizzo.

Benjy: Rahm was saying "Staaaaay awaaaaaay from Rezzzzzzko" in a spooky, ghost-like voice.

OK, so I heard Obama was going to be there, so I headed down to Daley Plaza. Was so excited. First time I'd seen him in person, but I was disappointed -- he seemed a bit cocky & arrogant.

They should have unveiled "Chalkie," the proposed official mascot for the Chicago 2016 Olympics.

I came across "Chalkie" on the SCC at secondcitycop.blogspot.com
