Woman Arrested for Trying To Sell Baby

A 28-year-old Joliet woman was arrested yesterday for attempting to sell her baby for $100. Jovon Griggs was charged with endangering the life or health of a child, which is a misdemeanor.

"We were contacted and told Griggs had attempting to sell the boy (Monday) morning," [police] said. "Our investigators became involved and contacted the Department of Children and Family Services."

Around 11:30 a.m. the person who had notified police reportedly met with Griggs and purchased the baby using money given by the police.

Griggs was arrested ... The 18-month-old and Griggs' 8-year-old son were placed into DCFS custody.

Police had been to Griggs's home a few months ago to do a welfare check on her children. [S-T]
