The red carpet is being rolled out tonight at the Loews on Michigan for the Chicago premiere of Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, the first film based on an American Girl doll to be released in theaters. Cutie-pie Abigail Breslin stars as Kit, an American Girl living in 1934 during the Great Depression. Chicago natives Chris O’Donnell and Joan Cusak are also expected to be at the premiere of the film, in which O’Donnell plays Kit’s father and Cusak plays a boarder named Miss Bond.
Like Chicago, Los Angeles and New York City will also be having major premieres, as all three cities are locations of an American Girl Place store. The movie is based on the series of Kit books, written by American author Valerie Tripp, who also wrote all of the books in the Felicity, Josefina, and Molly series.
Even though we were totally into American Girl dolls when we were younger (Kirsten, holla), we don’t know much about Kit, as we graduated to reading Baby-sitters Club when we turned eleven-ish, and the Kit doll did not debut until 2000. But we are sure Kit’s story is smashing.

Weekend Diversion: Night Of The Ponies

Kirsten and Felicity, FTW.
Oh, lordy. I am so excited about this movie. I'll go see it by myself with all the nine-year-olds. Of course, I was more of a Molly girl myself.
Yea, I liked Molly, too. She had glasses and so did I!
Samantha and Felicity. Boo-yah.
Samantha and Addy, AND an American Girl of Today when they first came out. My mom apparently begged for them to paint on freckles, but no luck...
Those little girls these days don't know how lucky they are.
I've come to learn the "FTW" used on the interweb has a much much different meaning than the "FTW" I grew up with.
