Adobo Grill Linked To Salmonella Outbreak

2008_6_18.adobo.gifThe Chicago Department of Public Health announced today that nine salmonella cases around Chicago have been linked to tainted tomatoes served at Adobo Grill, both at its Wicker Park and Old Town venues.

The FDA announced earlier this week that the agency was investigating a nine-case cluster, but wouldn't name where, but local officials say they assume the FDA means these Chicago cases. So far, 383 people in 30 states plus DC have been identified as being infected with the same strain of salmonella; 34 are in Illinois.[Trib, CDC's map of the outbreak]

How is this Adobo grill's fault? People got sick all over the country. Boo-urns to you for propegating that bogus Trib story that may well kill a loved Chicago restaurant.

They got shut down a few weeks ago for a variety of violations.

Matty:

Don't be so dumb. This is news. If people are getting sick at a restaurant in my neighborhood, I want to know about it, whether it's the restaurants fault or not.

If, for no other reason, than that I would know to go get tested, if I happened to have a tomato there yesterday....

No one said it was their fault but that doesn't mean it should be kept under wraps. If you had eaten there in the last couple weeks, I think you'd want to know this.

whitneymaiers - if spam is annoying, i don't know what that was.

Adobo is delicious. But it disturbs me that they don't wash their vegetables.

Salmonella cannot be killed by just washing the veggies. The veggies would need to be thoroughly cooked. That's the only sure way.

Thanks for the e-mail address, Whitney The Spammer. Hope you like horse porn.

Adobo was killed for me the last time when:
1) it took 20 minutes to get our first round of drinks and no more fresh mango in the dakari!
2) We waited for our spicy homeade guac (which never game) for another 20 minutes with empty drinks too
3) Our meals arrived and were good, but they took my favorite dish off the menu (the old ribeye with the cheese sause). Also, my friend politely asked for no radish garnish on the meal and the waiter said "Its just a little, you can pick it off" Seriously, can't you NOT put it on the meal?
4) Another 20 minutes for coffees
5) Waiting for the bill. . .using the 15 minutes to place bets on whether the waiter has mischarged on drinks or included the guac on the bill that we never received
6) My husband goes to speak to the manager or someone else about correcting the bill, as we're not going to wait another 15 for correction and 20 for payment. . .bill gets corrected and paid

NEVER going there again. Used to love it too.

I always hated that place anyway.
