Bastard ash borers! This is going to be soooo bad. Say good bye to all the ash trees and say hello to an outrageous cost to attempt to deal with it. The asian longhorn was nothing compared to this.
That is a great picture. I love it.
A convicted sex offender won $57 million in the Michigan state lottery this week.
Why is this news, exactly? Because it blows the whole concept of karma right out of the water?
A cross promotion between MTV and Sears might be the crappiest thing I've ever heard of. Like, crappy enough to tear a hole in the fabric of space/time.
Pinko,
You never know...I've read stories about people who have won jillions of million of dollars in the lottery and were absolutely miserable. It seems many of them blow through it and, in the end, declare bankruptcy.
Karma may still be waiting to bite him in the ass.
This lottery story is such a non-story. He did time and was released. They don't give many details from the actual crime for everyone to be spouting off about karma.
And is anyone really surprised that a convicted criminal plays the lottery? Of course one is bound to win every once in awhile.
Mary,
When someone commits a sexual assault and 'does their time'....that's it for them. Their suffering is over. But the survivor of that sexual assault has to deal with the ramifications forever.(and this guy has an arrest record for other things too...and who knows what else he has done that he did not get caught for!)
I think that so many people take it personally when someone of that caliber has the good fortune to win a jackpot of that amount.
Yep, life is fundamentally unfair...but for a rapist to have that good fortune is like a kick in the stomach.
I don't know how the statute of limitations is going to work on this case, but there could be a possibility of the survivor filing a civil suit.
Hopefully they can control the spread of the ash borer. Take a look at this picture to see what Dutch Elm Disease did to Detroit over a decade.
Ingrid,
Number 1, as I said before, there is nothing in this article that gives enough detail for any of us to know what happened. Also, he did not rape anyone, (details, I know) but stop using that loaded word.
Number 2, the guy as an arrest record from 20+ years ago for breaking and entering. Again, no details given.
I'm not saying the guy is an angel, but I guess I don't see the point of letting people out of jail if people are going to continue to be persecuted for their crimes.
This lottery winner was convicted of "sexual assault". That does not mean he is a "rapist". He could have been charged with "sexual assault" for whipping out his dick while he was drunk at a carnival. Not a cool thing to do, and deserving of jail time for sure, but I don't know if that constitutes "assault". I'd like to know what he did before I call him a "rapist". Also, a prison record can affect a person's career for the rest of his/her life as well.
Laws pertaining to sexual behavior are VERY strict and narrowly defined these days. The term sex offender now groups pedophiles in the same category as men who visit prostitutes. There's a BIG difference between a man who wants to pay an adult woman cash for consensual sex and some lunatic who wants to fondle schoolkids.
If he did jail time for 'sexual assault' you can pretty much rest assured that it was for something not so innocuous as whipping his dick out.
It's pretty, pretty hard to get a sexual assault case to the courts let alone an actual conviction and then even harder to get actual jail time.
The legal system is pretty much skewed to protect the perp and NOT the survivor.
There are judges now who won't even allow the word "rape" to me mentioned in court. They go so far as to not even allow the words "sexual assault".
Which means when you're in court, as a survivor of an assault, you have to refer to what happened to you as sexual penetration.
Or whip out your thesaurus to find other words that the judge will allow...because after all...he doesn't want the words 'rape' or 'sexual assault' to cause any bias towards the defendant.
you get the finger if you drive a Hummer, or if you skateboard. Can't win, can you?
