I had a bunny that interacted amazingly well with my very, very large breed dog. They were so cute together. I have a picture of them taking a nap snuggled up together.

The rabbit's cage was in a corner of the dining room and we left the cage door open for her to come and go as she pleased. The dog and rabbit played chase games together.

I know several people who had pet rabbits who were just allowed to roam free. One lived in a Lincoln Park row house, the front yard was fenced in and the bunny just hung out in the front yard when the weather was nice.

Another friend has a pet bunny and that thing is like 11 years old!!
If you take good care of them, they have pretty long life spans.

But, Slaphappy, you are correct in that a lot of people get them and then abandon them when they don't live up to expectations.

The real problem is that too many people don't want to deal with all of the extra responsibility because in all honesty...they are a pain in the ass to take care of. You have to clean that cage out every freaking day or it stinks! They're a lot of work.

Kevin, stop perpetuating the myth that bunnies are like little dogs that you can easily train. Most of them are not. That line of thinking contributes to the number of people who abandon pet rabbits -- they were expecting a bunny that acts like a dog and didn't get one.
