A new report from the RTA says the CTA isn't doing enough emergency response drills, there's "debris" everywhere, operators aren't following safety protocols, tracks are severely deteriorated, and certain signal mechanisms have fallen into "disrepair." The CTA says they're on it, mostly.
In essence, CTA trains are safe enough to ride, but many upgrades are necessary and should not be postponed, the RTA concluded in evaluating 14 key areas.
The RTA will do a follow-up inspection later this summer, and CTA reps say that they'll be ready. In tangentially related news, I saw a guy dressed as Jesus on the Blue Line last night—he was carrying a huge cross and everything. I would have guessed something Pride related, but he was getting on the Blue Line in the Loop at 9pm, so.... Anyway, it ruled. [Trib, photo by cubsnumber10]

Every afternoon, the take the two car Evanston shuttles, as they pull in & make them up to six car express trains at the Linden platform.
I just hate it, as I ride the first car to have a shorter walk off the train & not miss the bus.
They also break up trains sometimes that way to.
"I saw a guy dressed as Jesus on the Blue Line last night—he was carrying a huge cross and everything."
Sad at the total lack of faith in this country! Seems to me that tt could have very well been Jesus.
What better away for the Lamb of God to commune with humanity (prostitutes, beggars, homeless, thieves, midlevel money changers, roman soldiers, etc) than on today’s equivalent of a public transportation manger
"what if god was one of us? just a slob like one of us? just a stranger on a bus, trying to make him home."
hmm not surprising. at least now it explains why the trains have been running EXTRA EXTRA slow lately, it must be for safety!
