Navin something we can agree on, besides fried pickles, by legalizing most drugs and regulating the potency, the goverment could tax the product (drugs)and increase funding for drug treatment programs, violence would be reduced if gangs werent shooting each other over drug corners, Walgreens and CVS would put the GD'sout of the drug buisness, and the cost of incarcerating non violent drug offenders would be eliminated. but its not going to happen no politican would get far with this plan. I do believe that cannabis has a chance to be decriminalized if not made legal.

Legalize drugs just like prescription drugs (which kill more people) and you'll see a big reduction in crime. Isn't it weird Ward, how we jail more people than any other nation on earth but our crime still sucks worse than most first world nations? Maybe it's the system that's broken.

To all so-called "reverends," grandstanding local Democratic elected officials, and police-bashers, congratulations. You have helped to create a perfect environment for crime to flourish. Did you notice that the Cook County Jail inmate census has plummeted? Hmmm, I wonder why. Oh yeah, that's right. Bad guys are operating in our neighborhoods with no fear of getting caught. That's right. Crime is UP but inmate numbers are WAY DOWN. You see, it is aggressive policing that results in arrests. It is the police who keep the peace in our neighborhoods. Why stop the guy dealing drugs or carrying a gun if you are going to get an abuse complaint, get sued, or get your badge pulled?

Unfortunately, I think we will see more violence as the economy declines, regardless of the weather or season.

man, I was driving over Belmont on Western right when that was happening last night. I think it was before the shooting though, there were just police cars set up in various intersections in the area trying to contain the situation I guess. I can't believe a cop got killed though, that's terrible.
