"The Bestest Taste Ever!! Until Next Year."

2635641473_8248c982e3_m.jpgColumbus Drive is safe for cars once again. Taste of Chicago is done for another year and city officials are declaring it a rousing success. As though they would say anything different.

The annual food fest drew an estimated 3.56 million people to the lakefront, quelling city fears that high gas prices, a sluggish economy and the intermittent outbreak of gunfire would keep people at home. That's a lot of staycationers, people.

I actually really enjoyed it. The pulled pork tacos at adobo were excellent. Great weather too.

this was the first and last "waste of chicago" i attended...it the alright but i don't understand the big draw. i enjoy the various neighborhood street festivals in the city much more.

i also hated wearing my bullet-proof vest while eating my turkey leg. those stains are a bitch to get out.

It was ok for a little while and the at dusk the bangers came out and the decent people of the city had to leave. Summerfest in mil. is way better and the crowds are better controled.

Gotta disagree, fed up. First, I don't think Summerfest and Taste are comparable, other than they're their respective cities' largest civic events. They're different kinds of events, though. Summerfest is more like Lollapalooza - a music festival with some peripheral food and culture tie-ins. Taste is a food festival with peripheral music tie-ins. The food at Taste is better and the music at Lollapalooza is better (Summerfest acts are great if you're 14 or 45+, not so much for those in between). Chicago wins on both counts.

More to your point, Summerfest has had its share of violence and crime in recent years, though none of it appears to have been gang-related (from news reports I can find, anyway).

The Taste sucks, but Summerfest is pretty sweet.

I have to disagree with Ontology. The food at summerfest is just as good, if not better, than Taste. They just have fewer options. Which is more than made up for by more and better beer options. not to mention that you actually get a beer at Summerfest, rather than an oversized shot glass of lukewarm beer-like substance.

Plus, the entertainment is much better. Gorging oneself on fastfood is not entertainment. And it's just disgusting to watch other people gorge themselves.
