News Names

Between Amy Jacobsen and Mark Suppelsa, we've been thinking a lot about local news today. Mostly, why is there so much alliteration?

There's Mai Martinez, Mary Kay Kleist, Mary Ann Ahern, Andy Avalos, Steve Sanders, Jan Jeffcoat, Robin Robinson, Sondra Solarte, Ben Bradley, Sarah Schulte and probably some more people we're forgetting. Phil Ponce doesn't quite count, though.

that's creepy....its like the characters of Superman; Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Lana Lang, Lex Luther.

i live on the same block as Ben Bradley. I see him walk his dog sometimes. true story.

I. love. Andy. Avalos. End of story.

I'm fine with the alliteration, it's the stupid made-up names like Amy Freeze and Ginger Zee that annoy the crap out of me.

Phil Ponce doesn't count because he's in a category of his own. He's the head of a Chicago news dynasty!

According to her website, Amy Freeze is her real name.

Andy Avalos is actually assonance.

although not necessarily relevant, mark giangreco needs a mention just for simply being a bad ass rock star!

ginger zee is her real name, but her last name is shortened to make it more pronouncable.

i went to college with her.

Whoever said Andy Avalos is amazing was completely right. Amy Freeze is too cheeze-y (more alliteration for you). Andy Avalos and Ginger Zee own the Chicago weather forecasting scene. Take that, Tom Skilling!

Andy Avalos is my hero. AND he's crrraaaazy nice to boot!

My favorite news name in Chicago is Dick Johnson. But Ginger Zee is a very close second.

Yes, I know I'm 11 years old, thank you.

Ha. Dick Johnson. I get it.
