Thanks Ingrid. That was exactly my point. The amount of outrage here should be applied to ALL rape cases that are prosecuted because inevitably they end up more similar to this than not. To pretend like this was a specific outcome because of a "kangaroo court" judge or prosecutor is naive. This is the *norm* people.

It is practically next to impossible to get a rape case to the point of conviction. And 'bad victim' might be a sad way of looking at it, but unless you are pretty much white, a virgin, pure as the driven snow, virtuous and really got beat up bad so you had a lot of scenic bruising, then your chances of getting a conviction are slim to none. Talk about judges...there are judges in this country who will not even allow the prosecutors to use the word 'rape' in their courtrooms because they don't want anything that looks prejudiced against the perp. Oh...and they won't allow anything like 'sexually assaulted' either, so you end up using words like 'was penetrated' which really ends up making the whole ordeal look tame. Also, it usually takes up to 2 years or more to even get a rape case to court. That's pretty frustrating and tiring for the victim/survivor of the rape. The whole system is set up for the attacker and definitely not the victim/survivor. From the actual attack, to what goes on in the ER directly following the attack and then the court system. It's all like getting raped over and over again.

I second what Albany Park said about the 14 year old child and add that State's Attorny Dick Devin is a JOKE. Too bad he dosen't defend abused women the way he defends former Chicago Police Torture and Commander Jon Burge. Please, so many Cook County Judges are like Big Bird, only with arrogance tossed in, this "judge" included. And of course your playing race is as pathetic as your argument

as much as these cases are shitty, the prosecutor clearly did not have a good case, had a bad victim and cut the best deal they could. it happens. Your use of the phrase "bad victim" makes me really hope you're never a victim yourself. The fact she might have been traumatized by being repeatedly assaulted by this ambulatory filth should not stand in the way of carrying out the law. Judges have a great deal of say in sentencing, they don't have to take these deals and they don't have to accept PROBATION for multiple felony rape. That judge should be out on his or her ear. And the D.A who brokered such a deal. I'm not a law and order nutcase in the slightest, but this is sickening.

Um, no. The whole patriarchic system routinely throws the daughters under the bus for the sake of the sons. The only way these two shits would have gotten more time is if they raped a baby or someone under the age of 9.

spook: The judge wasn't name so that when the next election comes this case couldnt be used to unfairly run him out of office as much as these cases are shitty, the prosecutor clearly did not have a good case, had a bad victim and cut the best deal they could. it happens. if they had been sent away for life, people would be complaining about the inherent racisim in the system etc etc.

Their "parents" should also be charged or at least named in the press and hounded by TV cameras so every one would know the type of monsters they brought into the world. p.s nice braids scum bucket p.p.s why wasn't the kangroo court "judge" named in the paper and the proescutor who clearly operated as a second defense attorney?

as disgusted as I am that there is no jail time and saddened that sexual assault of a 14 year old girl is 'not so bad' to incur said jail time - I was still surprised when I read the rest of the article. the then 15-year old got 5 years of probation. So why is it the then 17 and 18 year olds only get two for the exact same offense? Apparently the younger kid should have known better than the older kids. He should have set the example! wow - I just feel sick and very sad.

Guys like these make me wish every community had its own Dexter. AMEN. Just a little needle prick, then it's saran-wrap time. *sigh* Truthfully, I don't support capital punishment at all, just venting. And in 10 years, when they aren't dangerous sexual predators anymore (due to some kind of wonderful magic we'll discover in the intervening decade) they'll be completely free of the consequences of their actions. The victim on the other hand can't say the same.

So sexual assault doesn't get them any jail time. God. They would have received harsher sentences for simply possessing pot.
