Um, we thought the first rule of Fight Club was you do not talk about Fight Club. Someone should clue in the folks associated with Jabb, the boxing gym that’s sponsoring the 3rd Annual Fight Club Chicago event this Saturday.
Events like this are the culmination of the “white-collar boxing” movement that’s gaining momentum in yuppie circles around Chicago. Traders, account execs, lawyers and the like have taken to throwing punches as a way to blow off the steam that accumulates after too many hours under fluorescent lighting. We also know of a Broker Boxing event, now in its 6th year, that took place a few months back in which real estate professionals were pitted against each other in the ring in the name of charity. But Jabb has no such agenda – it exists purely for the glory. And for the excuse to drink some post-fight Jager Bombs and call your opponent a “douchebag.”
These events lack the animalistic nature of Fight Club in that gloves and head padding are used. And even if it’s your first time at Fight Club, you don’t have to fight. Guests are welcome to sip a martini in the back corner. Bring on the blood! Er wait, can we at least get some bruises? [S-T]
Fight Club Chicago is at Jabb Boxing Gym at the Aragon Ballroom, 1106 W. Lawrence, Saturday, July 12, Doors at 7 p.m. For tickets or to compete call 312-733-5222.

I'd go watch.
If the fight was to the death.
Nothing like watching Chuck from accounting making his bones.
only if i can enlist my coworkers.
Cool I'm all for it!
They really had me until I heard "head padding". Of course some yuppies aren't really going to duke it out.
Head protection is worn in all amateur boxing, including the olympics.
