Mya Lyons, 9, was sexually assaulted and stabbed to death last night. Lyons was found in the alley behind her father's apartment on the 8400 block of South Gilbert Court.
Lyons (no relation) lived with her mother in Addison most of the time and was an honor student Stanley Hall school in Glendale Heights.
Relatives said Mya's father discovered the little girl was not in the house around midnight Monday night, prompting him to wake up the neighbor at the house the girl had been visiting. Mya's father drove around in his van, and found his daughter's body in the alley."Everybody was like, 'where is she?' We went looking for her and I found her in the alley. They dumped her in the alley," at the end of the block near his home, Richard Lyons said, breaking down.
Authorities haven't named any suspects yet. [WBBM, Trib, photo via NBC 5]

This post is a little confusing. Here's WBBM's explanation of the timeline.
"Neighbors said Mya., was playing at a friend's house until around 11 p.m. Monday, and that neighbor watched the little girl walk three doors down to her home.
The girl went to a party on the block later that night with her older stepbrother and relatives at some point realized she was missing."
Why was a 9 year old up at a party after 11pm? Lot of questions here.
I'm w/you, albany. I cannot make any sense of this story, as every source that's reported it is giving a different version. on the WGN news this morning, they kept saying she was supposed to be home, but her dad was at work (an 8 year old was home alone at night?), and when he got home, she'd "snuck out" (Because so many 8 year olds like to sneak out at night?) Then the Trib left out those details and just said her dad found her bed empty, then this version, and the WBBM version (which I hadn't heard at all). It may very well be a rush to report with mixed facts from bad sources (the trib kept quoting her grandpa, who didn't even know her correct age), but even the facts that are there, are awfully weird. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone for the actual crime, just saying it sounds like she had less than stellar supervision last night.
I'm one to give families benefit of the doubt. If someone shoved a microphone in my face hours after losing a child I might not be able to come up with a cogent timeline of events.
Sounds like the girl, like so many kids, just slipped between adults who each thought the other was keeping an eye on her.
If it is something more insidious, ugh...it's too fucking hot to think such dark thoughts.
Am I the only one confused by the (no relation)? Isn't that a reference to the victim?
Look at the byline for the post.
Yes, but I don't think Margaret was referencing herself? Did Margaret live with her mother in Addison?
I don't get it.
OK, wait. I sort of get it. That whole business could've been avoided with refering to Lyons as "the vicitm" or (no relation -Ed.)
Jesus. More coffee for me!
Margaret is telling us that the child (last name Lyons) has no relation to the author of the post (Margaret Lyons).
More reasons to hate humanity in general.
What a adorable little girl. *sigh*
For the record, my "?" had nothing to do with how this article/post was or was not written. It was more of a WTF! offered up into the abyss of horror where this "stuff" comes from
Considering the fact that the majority of sexual assaults are committed by family or acquaintance, then it's no surprise that the timeline to her death is murky.
Sounds like people are covering up.
I agree with the sentiment: WHAT was this little girl doing out at 11pm at night unaccounted for??????? That's insane!!!!!!!
I look at the smile on this child's face and it just breaks my heart.
It sickens me what that innocent little girl went through....and it is something that just never should have happened. She should have been tucked safely in bed.
They'll catch the scum who did it...and I don't think they'll have to look too far either.
Ingrid
family is a good bet in something as disgusting as this. In now way makeing an accusation but the person who discovers the body is another high percentage suspect.
It's gotta be someone they know.....this girl, as far as I understand, lived primarily in Addison with her mom. Her mainstay wasn't on the South Side with her dad. Given that and the fact that sexual assault is usually a friend/family members....they all should look around.
