9-Year-Old Girl Assaulted, Murdered

By Margaret Lyons in News on Jul 15, 2008 3:38PM

2008_7_15.lyons.jpgMya Lyons, 9, was sexually assaulted and stabbed to death last night. Lyons was found in the alley behind her father's apartment on the 8400 block of South Gilbert Court.

Lyons (no relation) lived with her mother in Addison most of the time and was an honor student Stanley Hall school in Glendale Heights.

Relatives said Mya's father discovered the little girl was not in the house around midnight Monday night, prompting him to wake up the neighbor at the house the girl had been visiting. Mya's father drove around in his van, and found his daughter's body in the alley.

"Everybody was like, 'where is she?' We went looking for her and I found her in the alley. They dumped her in the alley," at the end of the block near his home, Richard Lyons said, breaking down.

Authorities haven't named any suspects yet. [WBBM, Trib, photo via NBC 5]
