I've had "Concrete and Clay" stuck in my head all damn day. Good thing it's so awesome.

Illinois has seen fewer road fatalities this year than last. So far in 2008, there have been 484 traffic fatalities, which is about 100 fewer than over the same period last year. Finally, something good about high gas prices. [WBEZ]

Jody Weis testified in front of City Council today. [Trib]

A Red Line train struck and killed a person near the Argyle stop around 5pm tonight, which is why Red and Purple Line service was so janked this evening. [S-T]

Sixteen stingrays died at the Brookfield Zoo yesterday. "Sources said there was a voltage failure in the life support system in the 16,000-gallon saltwater tank. A chiller didn't go on and as a result, the temperature rose 10 degrees over several hours." [CBS]

Oooow, my heart.

Aargh, we forgot: The Chicago Outdoor Film Festival (aka "movies in Grant Park") starts tonight with All About Eve

Happy birthday, Grammy!

What is all that crap in the water near the shoreline?

That's bizarre, that's not what the train operator was telling us at all. I was on the Brown Line – I got on at Clark & Lake at 5 and they kept telling us the Purple Line was delayed for a medical emergency and that there was a shuttle from Belmont to Howard.

I'm thinking we need signs that tell people to stay away from the tracks.

This is the second death by train in two days. We can't have this a regular occurance.

ahhh, concrete and clay... what a great way to start my wednesday. thanks!

xlprg - How is the statement you received any different? I think getting hit by a train and probably electricuted constitutes as a medical emergency. The purple line does in fact pass through Argyle on its way to Howard (as Belmont is the last stop), so a shuttle would be necessary if power was shut off on that line. Since there aren't red line tracks at Clark/Lake, I think it was safe to assume that you weren't waiting for the red line there.

curios: if you pay realll close attention, you'll find not a lot of these train deaths are accidents.

i'm inclined to agree, shannon.
