Indiana state troopers found thousands of marijuana plants growing in a wooded swampy area of Kosciusko County which included two residential areas and a Girl Scout camp. The majority of the plants (around 5,000) were found on a "remote" part of the 220-acre Camp Ella J. Logan Girl Scout Camp. Sherri Weidman, Chief Executive of the Limberlost Girl Scout Council said the area was "only accessible by wading through muck or taking a canoe" and that camp employees were "dismayed" when they heard the news. Three residents were arrested and taken to court attorney-less last Monday with charges of possession and intent to distribute. While no Girl Scout was found high or suspiciously gnawing through boxes of Samoas, parents were still notified when they picked up their daughters from camp. [WBBM]

why are they samoas? where i came from they were "caramel delights," which seems very appropriate given their content. but samoas always makes me think of American Samoa, of which i know very little about. do they have delicious little chocolate, caramel, coconut, graham cracker-y cookies there? is there a thin mint country i should know about?
It's like s'mores. You always want some more. Some more --> sommore --> somoah --> samoas. At least that was the story my troop was told.
well, how else are they supposed to identify plants by their leaves?
all right, margaret, explain "do-si-dos." or just shovel them in my mouth, please.
Why couldn't my parents have sent me to girl scout camp there? I bet it was a lot more fun than the girl scout camp I had to endure.
Not just for girl scouts.
This happened at a few Boy Scout camps I knew too. Nothing of that scale though. More of a personal use situation, by a few staff members there for the summers.
the delicious chocolate, graham & coconut cookie was originally called a samoa... then sometime after 1987 (my last year as a GS) they changed the name to caramel delights along with several other cookie name changes. about 5-7 years ago they changed most of the names back to the original, including the samoa. yum.
Marijuana and girl scout uniforms are a great combination. I always make sure the strippers show their ID to prove their age before they start their Naughty Camping routine.
well, i was a brownie LONG before 1987, i can assure you that. i was a freshman in high school in 1987, and had long since passed my brownie/junior girl scout - cookie selling days.
maybe we were a GS cookie test market in WI?
p.s. are people really growing quality weed outside anymore? is that possible?
Now, how in the HELL are they going to get their Hemp Clothing Making Merit Badge, huh?
Come on, people, legalize it for THE CHILDREN...FOR THE CHILDREN!!!
There are two different companies that make girl scout cookies- one that calls them Samoas and one that calls them Caramel DeLites. They still go by both names. The company that calls them caramel delites also calls Tagalongs something stupid, and the different companies each produce a different kind of lemon cookie every year.
I know this because every single person I work with has a daughter in girl scouts and brings the cookie order form to work. This annoys me because my parents alway refused to do that for me, so I never got the bigger prize that all the other girls did, but also makes me happy because girl scout cookies are some of the most delicious cookies on earth. ANYWAY, every year, I see different forms with different names at the same time.
julia. i will send you my email address. i NEVER get the girl scout cookie hook up. (insert mega sad face.) i know they're ridiculously expensive for how much you get, but who cares?
Anyone remember Golden Yangles? Or was that just a weird special 1980's Girl Scout cracker in Southeastern Wisconsin?
We had Golden Yangles (cheesy Girl Scout goodness) and Hoe-downs, which later became peanut butter patties.
I think the Girl Scouts should start marketing a special marijuana cookie or something...eat great cookies and get high. They could call them "Munchies" or something like that.
