oph - do you really believe that the only reason a 9 year old would be going to bed past 11pm is some kind of shady circumstance? In the summer, especially on a warm night, kids stay up really late for all sorts of reasons. It doesn't mean they're being neglected.

Why did a nine-year-old have to decide on her own that she was tired and ask to go to bed at ELEVEN O'CLOCK AT NIGHT? What kind of parenting was going on in the house to begin with?

I think it was in the Tribune's coverage this morning, but I read that the autopsy (or some sort of examination of the body) concluded that she had not been sexually assaulted.

If she wasn't sexually assaulted than my theory that a friend of the family raped her and then in a terrfied rage to cover up the crime stabbed her to death, is totally blown.

Without the sexual assault, there is no obvious motive here which makes this whole thing really scary!

The only mention I saw in yesterday's coverage that had the words "sexual assault" was I believe in one of the news channels' articles. It read "relatives said she had been sexually assaulted".

This whole thing is a mess. There's really no where this story can go to have a clean ending, i just hope what we find out isn't as horrible as what we already know.

Why were they saying that she was sexually assaulted yesterday and then today she was not?

And yes, I agree, the timeline they are giving just makes no sense.

None of this is making any sense. Unless the authorities are purposely doing this because they know who the perp is.

I mean, she goes upstairs to bed and literally 15 minutes later she's dead in the alley? I cannot think of any scenario where an 8 yr. old would say she's tired, go upstairs to bed and then 15 minutes later be found dead in the alley.

The cops know who did this. I think that they will solve this case very, very soon.

Again, the timeline here is hazy.

She goes to bed, ten minutes later she's gone. 15 minutes later she's been assaulted and stabbed.

This means that either the perpetrator was in the house, or watching from outside to see that she was alone or simple very 'lucky' to catch her unawares and unwatched.

The likelihood that the person, using the word in the loosest possible sense, who did this was known to her and her family is pretty high.

I can't imagine the pain this family is feeling.

This is absolutely heartbreaking. Every time I look at her picture it makes me cry, and to think this is likely someone the little girl knew and presumably trusted makes it even more horrible. I can't imagine her family's grief.
