Sum-sum-summertime

2008_7_16.hotsears.jpgYeesh, it's going to be even hotter today than yesterday, so if you were wondering when you should hold your popsicle-eating extravaganza, the time is now.

Highs will be in the 90s, with heat value index making it feel even hotter, and it's going to stay this hot the rest of the week. [NWS, photo by sfmoe]

Popsicle-eating, heck, I'm gonna put the whole frozen package in my lap to beat the heat!

Love it, love it, love it.

90 degrees or more is better any day than gray and 20 degrees during what seems like Chicago's 14 months of winter, about which many will complain endlessly.

And if you think this is hot, trying living in the South for a while--the deep South. This ain't nothing.

Matilda, let's not forget, if it gets down to 40 degrees (brrrr!) in the Deep South, most of those people will moan as much as we do when it's 90 degrees here. It's all relative, I think.

A hot day makes you wonder what the BODY COUNT will be?

The popsicles will melt before you even get them out of their wrappers.

i'm from texas so i love the mild summer here so far, but i hate the crowds and stench of BO that accompanies the non-frigid weather.

I've got a case of Fla-Vor-Ice locked and loaded.

Matilda & Oz - I grew up in the Deep South (Bama, Georgia, and Louisiana). This "heat" is fine with me. Though Oz does make a good point - every winter it there would be 2 or 3 days when the temp in New Orleans actually sank to near freezing and it would be the lead story on the news, with tips on how to keep your pipes from bursting. Though, to be fair, we did get snow from time to time where I lived in Alabama.

At least we have a nice cold lake to swim in.

Days like today remind of the ice cube scene in "Do the Right Thing"

jennyblur: i wouldn't put my crotch in that lake!

this heat is definitely uncomfortable, but i've made a promise long ago never to complain about the heat. i worry a bit for my cat, flan, but other than that, i'm young and healthy, so i have nothing to worrry about other than sweat and grimy-ness.

take care of your pets, though.

also, i have no A/C and haven't for my whole life save for a year or so. and the lake thing ... again, i'm healthy and young. i do not fear lake michigan. it's just normally too cold for me.

The lake is totally clean. Do you actually know anyone who has ever gotten sick from it?

I swim in the lake 2-3 times a week and am sure I swallow water here and there as well as it goes in my eyes etc.

I feel ok.

I try to remember the depressing darkness of Chicago winter on days like this so I don't complain about the heat too much, but trying to work from home without A/C on a day like today is pretty bleh.

I wonder if the popsicle guy on my block would let me tuck myself into his cart for just a few minutes here and there.

A dip in Lake Michigan is good for the immune system. Don't turn into the anti-bacterial-soap-buying germaphobes that Madison Avenue wants you to be.

Thank God for the left nipple. Thank God for the right nipple.

yea i hear that. im not a super germaphobe type. i still wouldn't put my crotch in that lake.

It dosen't even feel that hot downtown. Most of you live along the lake, means you should quit yer yapping because its cooler! And think about it seven more hours of sunlight! You will make it home with out dying!
Have an ice cold beer and sit on your porch! Or go swin in the ice cold giant porta potty called Lake Michigan.

Jaws of Death will be there

p.s my A/C is still in the closet!

ropesack: I bet you've put your crotch on grosser things. Don't be a pussy.

Spook: I'll be in the lake too!

i love the heat. fuck the humidity.

I was out in the burbs for work today, and it is hot as balls out there. Thank God for the lake.

Blargh heat! If I have to carry any more changes of clothes with me on my bike I'm gonna need a freaking sidecar.

Regular stuff + full change of clothes for sweat soaked ones + water bottle (bike geometry doesn't fit a cage) + everyday stuff= I need a minivan bike.

o.k its rained and its now cold outside. Now go back to being HOT!!
