Someone did that in an attempt to keep the Expos in Montreal many years back before they moved to DC.

in the age of our internets, i'm surprised that nobody has gotten an organization together to get a huge group of fans to put in a bid. I'd drop $100 to own the cubs. Now we only need 10 million people to donate $100. Oh ouch. Ten million people.

Well, Kfunk, a few of us here at the Chicagoist offices are actually Cubs fans. We're just not as...um...vocal about drinking the haterade on the "other" team (cough-Sudo-cough).
