I was at the pitchfork festival over the weekend, and I was pleasantly surprised to see an Indonesian food-stand.

I am a dutch-indonesian woman and I had to try their food.

I must say, the food reminded me of the way my indonesian grandmother used to cook.
It was nearly perfect and really delicious!
Especially the Bami Noodles and the satay. The where fabulous!

I hope they will be there next year again. And hopefully they will have their own restaurant soon.

It will be nice to finally have a real indonesian restaurant in the chicago aerea.

Meteorologist: You're in luck, then. You can buy ćevapčići retail at both Quality Meats in Lincoln Square and Paulina Meat Market. I think they go for around $8-9 a package, but are so worth it.

i missed the falafel wrap! i wish i could have had one of those. i went for the "fish and chips" from the abbey pub. uh?? you mean fried something that tasted like fish? there was NO fish in there. horrible.

the smoothies from star of siam were great, though. my question is when did corn get to be more than $2 a cob? god. what has happened to this world? and the $2.50 cob i ate had NO butter!

GriffinMill: Whoa, now. I did review Blind faith's Veggie BBQ sammich for "One Great Sandwich" once upon a time. I'll admit that I'm certainly not vegetarian-friendly, but comparing me in the same breath as Bourdain is an insult to... one of us, most likely Bourdain. Let's settle on "conscious omnivore" and move on, eh?

Chicago Diner is one of those places on which we'll have to agree to disagree. My opinion is that it coasts on its reputation and I've rarely had a standout meal there. I've had much better meat-free fare at Soul Vegetarian and Amitabul. The latter is one of my favorite vegan restaurants in the city.

And I'll grant you a Mighty Marvel no-prize for Hot Doug's veggie dog.

Chuck,

We all know you're about as empathetic as Anthony Bourdain when it comes to vegetarianism, but many thanks to the Pitchfork organizers for bringing in lots of vegetarian and vegan fare. You should have checked out the delicious Chicago Diner fajita wrap (the hotdog was no Hot Dougs veggie dog, however), and the veggie tacos from that catering company hit the spot (although those are simple to make at home and they are nowhere near as good as the seitan sandwich w. coleslaw they served last year).

Why don't any of these festivals recognize that crepes are the best to-go food ever?

shameshameboy: The Rice Table has a long-term goal of opening a restaurant, but right now they're simply working as a caterer.

I had the spicy lentils. Big mistake. It tasted great, but I looked like I was on trial for murder the rest of the day cause I would not stop sweating.

@ Mr. Sudo

You described The Rice Table (whose site is under construction, btw) as a caterer. Do you know if they plan to open a restaurant as well? The rijsttafel (which is Dutch for "rice table") that I had in Amsterdam is one of the most memorable meals I've ever eaten. I'm a-twitter at just the thought of something approximate coming to our inland shore.

We had Star of Siam and while it wasn't Thai that I'd seek out, it was pretty darn good. Plus, you really can't beat the pricing that Pitchfork has them charging. It's substantially cheaper than the same food would be at a show like Lollapalooza.

While it'd be nice to have a bit more variety, I didn't have any problems with the food this weekend.

No way! I had the falafel wrap at the Chicago Diner and it was really, really good. Also yes, the ice cream was delish!

I agree. I had the ginger chicken at the Indonesian booth and it was mediocre. Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the eclectic choices, but the fact that the lines were longer at the booths that offered typical Chicago fare like Connie's and Ronbinson's tell me that the alternative choices could have done better. I really liked the vegan ice cream too.
