Urlacher, Bears Reach Deal

2008_7_21.urlacher.jpgBrian Urlacher and the Bears have finally agreed on a new contract.

Urlacher, 30, had four years and approximately $25.5 million remaining on his contract. Under the terms of the upgraded deal, Urlacher will receive a $6 million signing bonus along with a $1 million bump in salary each of the next four years. The sides also have agreed to extend the pact into 2012, at a salary of $7.5 million. Urlacher can earn an additional $500,000 in a workout bonus in 2012.

Urlacher is expected to sign the contract tomorrow when Bears players report to camp. [ESPN]

"approximately $25.5 million remaining on his contract...."
does any one else think that this is
inherently wrong and obscene especially in the mist of this wave of an economic depression? Oh and has any one noticed that the BBC covers the cooked American economy in far more detail than NPR while comparing it with increased American escapism via sports and reality TV?
