Bob Novak: I'm John McCain's Bitch

2008_7_bob_novak_youre_my_punk.jpg

Remember those rumors we heard that John McCain might announce his veep pick this week? Now Sun-Times columnist and part-time satanist Bob Novak is claiming that the McCain camp used him to snatch headlines from Obama. Time's Mark Halperin quotes Novak as saying that a “very senior McCain aide...suggested I put it out.” Now Novak says that “certain people” tell him "this was a dodge...they were trying to rain on Obama's campaign," adding that it’s “pretty reprehensible if it's true.”

This is news? Come on. Novak's been the bitch of the Republicans for years, and been playing dumb for just as long. Why is he pretending to have any journalistic credibility left now?

All this while Obama is getting a fellatio orgy from the networks.

I feel sort of sorry for McCain. If Obama plays basketball, it is the lead story on the news.

Even McCain's genuine brand of crazy isn't making headlines.

If I were him, I would be desperate too.

But not so desperate I would choose Mittens to be on my ticket.

Hey Fed,
Too much information.
Let's keep your fantasies off Chicagoist, alright?

Wait, wait, wait. A national campaign would put out the possibility of news to distract the press and public for a different candidate? Oh. My. Gosh. I can see why Novak was shocked and finds this "pretty reprehensible." Especially since he worked in the Nixon White House, so he's never seen any political tricks.

Why is this even a story? Because it didn't work?

Nearly certain sign of a failed candidate, party, program, idea: Blame the media. Blame the media. Then blame the media some more (ignoring the fact that the media has exploded with blogs and cable news channels, some of which cater to conservatives).

Are the media often stupid? Yes. That doesn't mean they are to blame for every freaking problem you have.

Fed Up, looking at you, pal.

It almost seems as though the die-hard Republicans are purposefully trying to make McCain look stupid so he loses. This is all just too weird.

Sometimes the media really is to blame. These things are cyclical.

John Stewart nailed Novak back in 2006:

"We can work this out because I know that you're a good person deep down in your thing that they replaced your heart with. I see your redeeming qualities. For example, when you're on television, you let others shine, while you generously absorb all light and oxygen. When you leave an area, it stops raining. And I know that in the past I've referred to you as a douchebag, but that's not an air of grandeur, that's just mean, and sophomoric. And I only said those things to you because I sincerely believe you're a terrible person."
--Jon Stewart

yeah fed up, and john mccain is treated so harshly.

I mean, its not like we should expect CBS news to play the actual responses to the questions he's asked in an interview. I mean, when he says something so demonstrably false that it makes him sound like a clueless moron, CBS should just cover it up with a convenient response to a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT QUESTION and scrub the original response.

No, that isn't the media bending over backwards for their buddy McCain.

@Slaphappy
I do believe the Republicans want McCain to lose, that is why they selected that clueless old fart to represent the GOP in the first place. They want Obama to inherit the gigantic shit sandwich that our country has become. They figure four years of Obama trying to clean up after Cheney & Co. will give them ammunition for 2012.

In DC this morning, Bob Novak hit a pedestrian on K Street. He has been cited, and the pedestrian was sent to a hospital.

This is going to be a very entertaining campaign season. It seems like Obama is doing the circuit like a rock star while McCain wanders around doing the small town thing that always looks like he just crashed some farmers wake. Two very different approaches with very little substance. Neither candidate really bashes the other one. They leave it to the staffers. It is going to get good as time goes on. I fear the republicans are in sort of a rut though as the best one they have come up with so far is the lapel flag. They keep running that one up the flag pole with little success outside of west virginia.....

Not only did Novak hit someone, he fled the scene and was chased down by a biker.

Money quote: "He's not dead, that's the main thing."

So lets all forget that eyewitnesses see that the pedestrian "is sort of splayed into the windshield" before Novak drives off and denies any knowledge of the incident but instead focus on how great a guy Bob Novak is for not killing the ped.

I wonder if his story would change under the influence of some non torture Bush approved coercive interrogation techniques?

Actually, dopplerd, the really great quote, from WaPo is “’Learn to read the signs, [bodily orifice]!’ Novak snapped before speeding away.”

That, and the fact that Novak was driving a Vette, (a fucking Vette!) makes this the best story. Ever.

Kevin: I disqualified that quote as it was in reference to a 2001 incident not the one this morning. The cherry-on-top quote is this one (from 2001) is in reference to jaywalkers:

"The other option is to run 'em over, but as a compassionate conservative, I would never do that."

I guess yet another one of his prognostications turned out to be wrong.

Im not even really anti Obama I just think the politican who has not done anything in 4 years as a senator (well 3 hes been ghost employee for the last year)is being built up into an Idol is stupid. He is a terrific public speaker(of prepared text not so good off the cuff)and that sets him apart from so many other pols. I believe at this monment Obama will win but then everyone is going to be disapointed because there really isnt a lot he can CHANGE. The troops will be in Iraq 16 months from the inaguration they will be there 24 months from the inaguration. If we leave Obama would take the blame for a little thing called ethnic cleansing that will happen. The economy will be in recovery in Jan so his policys dont matter there. Obama will get a longer honeymoon then most but his fall will be greater he's being put on a pedastal and will get taken off by the ultra libs that get disapointed in the lack of CHANGE. The more thing CHANGE the more they stay the same.
