We're all getting over our excitement for the upcoming NHL Winter Classic on New Years Day. Blackhawks versus Red Wings at Wrigley? Hell yes, we say. But some of us are teeny bit more excited than others. For example, Cook County Commissioner Mike Quigley. Quigley put together a resolution declaring January 1, 2009 as "Chicago Blackhawks Day" and designating Wrigleyville as an "Octopus-Free Zone." But our favorite part of the resolution? The clever Quigley tossed in a slam on the rival Red Wings by using red capital letters in the last line of the resolution that, when written out together, spell "DETROIT SUCKS." Buuuuurrrrrrn! Your move, Detroit.

Detroit sucks?? Really? Is that the best you can do? As someone originally from Michigan, first tell me something I don't know. Detroit is probably one of the scariest places on earth. Second, only people from Detroit are allowed to insult it. You'd better cover you're kneecaps....

i love a county commissioner who keeps it real. as archie manning pointed out, the shirt/tie say "i mean business but i have a sense of humor...the haircut, however, says "i'm tom tunney's secret lover".

our tax money at work. The one guy who actually understands TIFS are stealing money from the tax rolls and giving it to the mayors developer friends is now spending his time doing this crap. We are doomed.

On another note, being a Chicago resident and Detroit native, I always get really embarrassed when the "De-troit Sucks!" chants begin. Like, that's all ya got? Chicago Blackhawks (occasionally Bulls) and Cleveland Cavs games are the only places you hear that, presumably because their fans are unable or forgot what it's like to cheer for their own teams, only to tear down opponents.
Similarly, Yankees fans make fun of Mets fans who would sooner say "Yan-kees Suck!" than "Let's Go Mets!"
