Aldermen, City Want Buses To Go Faster

2008_7_28.bus.jpgAldermen approved a measure today to help the 49X bus be more efficient. Every little bit helps, Alderfolk!

Starting in January, the Western Express bus will have the same kinds of traffic-light–changing sensors that ambulances and firetrucks have. Emergency vehicles automatically get traffic priority, but the buses would only get a green light if they're running late and when traffic conditions make it safe. [S-T, photo by saro]

No, the buses should get a green light regardless of schedule, and the schedules should be adjusted to reflect the new speed.

Stupid...

no, because that would screw up the traffic signals for those traveling east/west. including other buses.

for the 49 x traveling on weeknights after 10 (before 6am) or weekends after 9, fine, change the light. otherwise i agree with ktr
