Don't worry, folks. They'll be another royal asshole ready to take his place, and will. There are plenty of people - both opinionated and irrationally angry like Ingrid - lined up around the block hoping to fill his void. Don't think the world is gonna get any better with Novak staring down the slab.

Manonthestreet:

The brain tumor defense was used in a "Law and Order" episode once.

I think the timing is unusual, but brain tumors can cause rage, seizures, withdrawl, problems in vision and speech. It's not unheard of by any stretch of the imagination.

Depending on what kind of tumor he has, he may never recover.

Now, if he is still responsible for what he allegedly did is up for the courts to decide. If he does recover, I hope that he faces the consequences of his actions.

Weak. I'd say that "not feeling sympathy" for someone is a very far cry from hoping "this walking colostomy bag dies a painful death."

Yes. Compassion for everyone except those one dislikes is not true compassion.

This most certainly applies to Novak too.

Wow, brain tumor.. gotta remember this defense when I run over someone.

"Oh, right, that's why I did it. I was momentarily stunned by my brain tumor. Not my fault."

Get ready for the miraculous recovery....

Mary,

I had my opinion formed before I read anything. I just posted the comments because I thought they were amusing.

We're all human, if we don't feel sympathy for a dickwad who has a brain tumor that doesn't give you the right to besmirch anyone's character.

Oh, well as long as you've found other people who agree with you that must make you right.

Seriously, the guy's a douche, but guess what? There are millions of assholes in this world. Do you only wish ill of those assholes with whom you disagree? Doesn't say much for your character.

Below are just a couple of comments floating around about your precious Prince of Darkness.
btw...I don't think that anyone is going to go out of their way to
'celebrate', but it's natural to have strong feelings about a man with his nefarious character. I'm not going to drink champagne and dance on his grave, but then again I just don't have any empathy towards him. He's despicable. And if some of us are hyperbolic in our words, that's just the way it is.
__________________________________

-I am pro-choice words. Especially when it comes to Novak.

-Fuck you, Bob.

-And here I was all ready to curse God for foresaking the world. Huh. Seems he does care.

-Ooooo. Feel the shame.

-karma’s a bitch, eh bob?

-The fact that he’s in pain now doesn’t absolve him of the pain he caused beforehand. He was a tumor and now he has one.

-Listen, Bridg. If we make exceptions for Novak then we’ll have to make excuses for Dick Cheney, Rick Santorum’s 9-year-old daughter, and WALNUTS! mom.

P.S. Did you read the posts on Jerry Falwell’s funeral?

-I won’t let me comment…damn…

-Maybe he has the good kind of brain tumor, like the one that Rain Man had.

-Maybe we can use mowing down homeless people to diagnose and treat all of America’s illnesses. Sure beats that socialized Muslim crap Barry Obama wants to impose on all of us.

-Well, the important thing is that he’s not dead. Yet. Wait, that’s actually the part that sucks, isn’t it?

-Yeah, Bridgette. Making fun of a lousy old guy driver in a compensating Corvette who later finds out he has a toomah is cruel unlike said lousy old guy driver who leaks the name of a CIA involved in preventing nuclear proliferation for political payback which is just plain fucking hilarious.

-So the ancient hobo-slayer finally manifests a physical, Blackberry sized nugget of the type of woe his philosophy jams up the asses of 80% of the American population and I have something to apologize about for not giving a shit? EPIC LULZ

-Would that he have a death-bed conversion, to, you know, good.

-Hey, Hitler got depressed and killed himself. I feel bad for him now. :’(

-I will admit that Mr. Novak is better than ---- in one key thing:

He leads this site in acts of treason, 1 to 0. Was outing Valarie Plame tumor-induced, too?

-I think everybody here hopes that Robert Novak — the douchebag of liberty — fully recovers so that he may one day return to his important work of mowing down homeless guys with his ‘vette.

-So, does having a brain tumor now excuse decades of antisocial behavior? Because if so, I’ve had a brain tumor since the age of 12.

We all die, that's the tragic consequence of living.

But while we are here, how we comport ourselves is what matters.

Robert Novak has been nothing short of an irascible parasite in his work and public behavior.

Perhaps he is the kindest soul to his children and family. Perhaps he is an honest friend, a regular contributor to charity and good to all the animals.

But when you make your living denegrating others and raking muck it should come as little surprise that others delight in your misfortune.

I don't wish him pain or an ugly death, that's petty and low. Something I'd be unsurprised that Robert Novak would stoop to.

The man is scum.
This is a man who cares about nothing except himself.

Possibly true, but at the same time he's also someone's father.

Yeah, the guy is a dick. Most people know that, and most choose to take the high road and be above celebrating the imminent death of someone, even if that person is an asshole.

But congrats - you win.

Why don't you ask Valerie Plame (or her husband) how much compassion Novak had for her when he exposed her identity as a CIA operative?

This has nothing to do with me not "liking" him. The man is scum.
This is a man who cares about nothing except himself.

Compassion? For Novak? R U serious?

Like Kennedy or not, at least you could associate him with the word "compassionate".

There are many a word to associate with Novak and compassionate is not among them.

And if you travel around the blogosphere, I'm actually being pretty tame when you compare what others are saying about this.

This guy is a jerk and I don't have even one iota of anything even resembling compassion for him.

"but I hope this walking colostomy bag dies a painful death."

Really? Wow.

Whether it's Kennedy or Novak you can always count on blowhards across the political spectrum to spew their venom anonymously on message boards. How about a little compassion toward those who are ill, regardless of their politics?
