The Sushi X Factor

By Chuck Sudo in Food on Jul 30, 2008 2:45PM

We were introduced to Sushi X via a grainy photo taken from a friend's camera phone. The beauty of the roll stood out among the noise in the picture and we had to check out the place.

This BYOB establishment doesn't take reservations (don't worry about finding a table; our party of three were the only customers in the restaurant for a forty-five minute stretch last night, even though we were told that the space fills quickly). Wind your way past the curtains greeting you as you enter and you'll find one of the more accessible sushi rooms in the city. This despite the fact that Sushi X adheres to the basic principles of Interior Design for Sushi Bars 101. Sushi X certainly sticks to that motif, but combination of color choices (dark blue walls, painted tin ceilings) and lighting ensures that you'll be able to see your hand in front of your face.

Sushi X is also affordable. The three rolls in our photo gallery and corkage fees for the wines came to just under $60. Moreover, the sizes of the rolls were enough to sate our collective hunger. With two locations in River West (1136 W. Chicago, 312-491-9232) and Lincoln Park (543 W. Diversey, 773-248-1808), Sushi X also has a wide delivery area that takes in much of the north side.
