City to Heat: We’re onto You

While Tankboy, Marcus, Chuck and other Chicagoist staffers crush in with 75,000 other festival goers at Lollapalooza this weekend, temperature highs are expected to be in the upper 80s, possibly even surpassing 90 degrees.

City officials, understandably skittish from all that finger-pointing business after this year’s Taste, will be closely monitoring weather and safety conditions at the festival, providing first-aid stations, cooling centers, misting stations and several response-ready ambulances. Festival planners have also agreed to provide free water if temps rise above 90. [Trib]

What a croc -- free water only if it's over 90 degrees outside? Less than that though, and you have to dish out $4 for your bottle of water, plus pay the city of chicago water bottle tax. Why isn't free water already available in grant park?

speaking of water .... chicagoist, would you re-run your post about pets in the heat? besides leaving them in hot cars (duh!), it's also not cool (pun not totally intended) to leave them outside of businesses (like the snouter i just saw hanging outside jewel) for a long time with no water!!

they're hot! they have fur! i read it doesn't take very long for a dog to get in bad shape. also, maybe encouraging more businesses just to stick a bowl out with some aqua for the pooches. how hard can that be?

take care of your pets, people!

The water at Lolla is $2 not $4. Learned their lesson? Maybe... water should totally be free though.
