The Cubs beat the Houston Astros 11-4 this afternoon on the back of a huge third inning that saw Mark DeRosa blast a grand slam and a three-run shot from Alfonso Soriano. Embattled pitcher Jason Marquis got his first victory in almost a month and a half, giving up four runs over six and one-third inning and helping his own cause by knocking in a run. Sean Marshall and Jeff Samardzija did clean-up duty to secure the win.
It's the Cubs' ninth win in their last 11 games and they're 12-8 since the All-Star break. The team has an off day tomorrow (their first in three weeks) before hosting a three game series with the rival St. Louis Cardinals this weekend.

Whole lot of Cub love around here, but no mention of the Sox come from behind (twice) win in extra innings last night?...I see how it is....
Mattz - you're kidding, right? I mean, yeah, we've done more Cubs stories than usual this week with the sale and night games fiasco, but there are a dominant number of Sox fans on the staff who love to drink the haterade on the Cubs *coughBenji&Chuckcough*
Marcus, can we expect a recap of every game where the Cubs beat a sub-.500 team? Just wondering.
Emme, only if it's during the day and I'm sober. Which, admittedly, is rare.
did Chicagoist finally hire a sports reporter that doesn't blindly hate the Cubs? I'd settle for that, he or she doesn't have to even be a Cubs, it would just be nice to read a post about the Cubs minus the jealous vitriol
@Marcus
I've become jaded in general to the rampant Cubs converge in Chicago media in general and took the opportunity to play into the White Sox inferiority complex ("We are Chicago's Bitch"). At least this time the Cubs did something worth writing about (they are on quite a roll) so nothing against the Chicagoist.
