The Chicago police board released records today that cover officers who've been suspended or fired. In the report:
- Officer Barbara Nevers, who allegedly said "I don't pay for coffee, I am an officer, I get coffee for free," at a Starbucks. She's been suspended for three months and ordered to undergo counseling after a series of similar incidents.
- Sergeant Nicholas M. Ortega, who was fired after being found guilty of entering a bar in uniform, giving an "unauthorized person" a ride in his squad car, and having sex with a woman "in or near" his office.
- Officer Joseph Battaglia , who was suspended after he apparently told a restaurant employee "that he had confiscated 'weed' and asked if they wanted some."
Free coffee, sex in the office, and "weed." Way to take the fun out of everything, police board. [WBBM, Trib]

Weekend Diversion: Night Of The Ponies

About a month ago, another cop, this one in Florida, was busted for similar behavior at a Starbucks.
I wonder when the city will release a report about the behavior of Alderman.
This story is on Boingboing as well. It's delightful to watch the nerdy-ultra left-wingers going into spasms crying "POLICE STATE!" at the top of their lungs.
Most stores give cops free stuff just to have them around more often. I worked in a comic shop that comped a couple cop on books every now and then. When we had a shoplifter or a break-in they told us to call them direct.
Fed Up: Week after the devil buys a snowblower.
I wonder when the city will release a report about the behavior of Alderman.
Both should be under scrutiny. Or do you think not?
Err Albany,
It doesn't sound like she was nicely asking for a cup of coffee but rather acting like a demanding douche. I imagine there's a lot of young kids working at starbucks too, who don't know what they're supposed to do, being a chain and all.
fed up -
one word for you: AMEN! And they should start with Helen Shiller...after they get some clues on uptownupdate.com.
who would rat out a cop who offered you free weed and sex "in or near" his office? people are such buzzkills.
there's a HUGE difference between a store offering a cop free stuff and a cop demanding free stuff from a store. how anyone can't tell the difference between those two is beyond me. that cop at starbucks should have been fired. end of story
Navin, both should be under scrutiny but we all know the alderman aren't the alderpersons passes an ordinance that says the inspector general cannot investigate alderman
And I will not be the first to throw stones over sex in or near the office.
Well fed I would like to see the Feds clean up Chicago on a wholesale level, aldercreatures and board presidents included. Certainly Troutman's not the only one that needs to do some time.
So Fed up, this is why I think you have some sort of sex fetish for brutal/abusive cops. Even in this case you can't speak out against these particular cops, but like a kid you have to say well alderman do it too! So tell us Mr. Cop Bottom Boi, tell us what you think about at night when you dream?. Maybe Peteypants can done a security guard uniform and make your cop domination fantasies come true! Peteypants is quite the humanitarian and I bet he looks good in blue ;-)
my popo uniform is still at the cleaners after a busy weekend of beating up barmaids and having sex in or near my office.
maybe I do dream of a hot cop with handcuffs is it wrong(women are police to) quit be sexist Spook. She doesnt have to be brutal but a little abuse might be fun.
