Cops Fired, Punished

By Margaret Lyons in News on Aug 7, 2008 7:55PM

The Chicago police board released records today that cover officers who've been suspended or fired. In the report:

  • Officer Barbara Nevers, who allegedly said "I don't pay for coffee, I am an officer, I get coffee for free," at a Starbucks. She's been suspended for three months and ordered to undergo counseling after a series of similar incidents.
  • Sergeant Nicholas M. Ortega, who was fired after being found guilty of entering a bar in uniform, giving an "unauthorized person" a ride in his squad car, and having sex with a woman "in or near" his office.
  • Officer Joseph Battaglia , who was suspended after he apparently told a restaurant employee "that he had confiscated 'weed' and asked if they wanted some."

Free coffee, sex in the office, and "weed." Way to take the fun out of everything, police board. [WBBM, Trib]
