Lets make sure we spend alot of time on this because its IMPORTANT. All that other stuff that Edwards talked about, poverty declining economic opportunity, etc is just boring.

If you ever want to drive yourself crazy, try watching CNN's "The Situation Room". 1, its an incredibly obnoxious title for a show (oooh, just the Sit Room at the White House). 2, Wolf Blitzer is a shrill, non-stop talking harpy. The guy cheated on his wife, is a douche bag, ran for president and was a senator. He lied about it, and now he's more or less finished as a politician. Now we get to listen to the talking heads blather on about what it does/doesn't mean. I'd turn the tv off at work if I could, but then I'd get in trouble.

Tune in to Fox News at 7 pm and watch Bill O'Reilly ejaculate himself over this Edwards thing. Afterwards, Sean Hannity will ask how the Edwards affair might ruin it all for Barack Obama. Karl "The Architect" Rove will be on hand to declare it's now all over for the Democrats this November and they shouldn't even bother having a convention blah blah blah.

It's crude that Edwards outright comes out with statements that he never loved Hunter. It makes one wonder what part of him is so emotionally disconnected that he can be in an intimate relationship with someone for that length of time without having love for that person. Oh wait, he's a politician and using people is normal for many of them.

If he is telling the truth (this time) that he never loved her, than it's understandable that he could do this while he's still married to someone else. Being dead in the heart allows people to do all kinds of reprehensible behaviors.

Ward, again it kills me that there's this perceived bias/favortism for a political party. Bottom line is that the National Enquirer, a sleazy rag that has reported that Bush is a closeted alcoholic who cheats on Laura (which is a lie), and makes up tons of shit about celebrities actually had a scoop for once. The media waited until they knew Edwards was caught, and was going to come out publically about the affair. Now its all over CNN and Fox, even though Russia is bombing Georgia.

Anyone who believes in the "liberal media" - look at who owns those stations. The money is in ratings - that is who they are loyal/biased to. Now that Edwards has admitted the affair, that's all we're going to hear about for a few days.

The MSM actually wanted the proof from the National Enquirer who would not offer it up. Naturally nobody's going to run with it if the N.E. won't even come up with the evidence. And you're got to lol, it's the Enquirer for chrisake, no wonder nobody ran with it.

"Edwards is bat boy's baby daddy!"

Please tell which politician HASN'T had an affair lately. You want to say its relevant because of the Clinton thing but how does it affect someone's ability to be a good leader? With Clinton it was as much the he outright lied on the stand in court as what he did. At least in my opinion. As for Edwards, It definately makes him a douchebag, but I think we can probably agree that most politicans are not exactly choir boys to begin with. Besides, how can you expect a politican to be above this kind of thing when regular people aren't? How many marriages break up because of affairs everyday? While it might indicate he's got questionable morals when it comes to fidelity, I don't think it impairs his ability to say, solve the oil crisis. Hell, I think we all know by now even Thomas Jefferson had some extra marital "going's on." And I doubt anyone would question his abilities as a leader.

And I disagree with you Ward Up. Look at the way the lampooned Clinton after what he did. True the media is biased, I can't disagree with that, but I think what happened here is that it was the national enquirer. And who wants to go anywhere near that? Same was true when it the whole Eddie Murphy/Scarey Spice baby thing if you recall. After all, this is a "news outlet" that reports on things like bat babies, and the fact that britney speas used to be a man....

Navin,

Right on. Not to mention, I also think the mainstream media--NYTimes in particular--may be reeling still from the McCain "affair" debacle. Why would they want to go rushing into a story where they didn't have the facts nailed down?

Ward MSS,
That's because there's a much higher level of schaudenfreude when your typical gay hatin' family values preaching Republican turns out to be a city park bathroom blowjob goblin or child boy intern lover. Democrats aren't usally preaching about Jesus and how they can save our family values from being destroyed by teh geys.

This is less a story about John Edwards (an obvious lizard) than it is a story about the biased mainstream media.

When the rumors of this affair surfaced last October, the mainstream media laid off. No investigative reporting. No digging.

Then, when the National Enquirer blew the thing wide open with the story of the comical chase in the hotel in Beverly Hills, the mainstream media backed off.

No stories on any major networks, or on CNN or MSNBC. No major papers carried the story. None said that they were going to investigate the story. If Edwards had been a Republican, there is no doubt whatsoever that the mainstream media would have behaved differently.

The lapse by the pro-Democrat press is a lapse especially because of the hypocrisy involved. The hypocrisy lay in the way Edwards paraded his kids and wife around more than any other candidate.

How predictable that the press would not do anything to hurt one of their darlings.

Well, Silky, the jig is up.

Uh, because it was the National Enquirer and they wouldn't offer any proof except their word....the word of the National Enquirer.

Have to feel sorry for his family. I'm not sure what this has to do with Chicago though. Because he was a longshot for veep?

You must also give props to National Enquirer -- they were the first to report this. He was a Presidential candidate, so you cannot argue it is not relevant (at least in this Post-Bill Clinton era). All major new orgs ignored it. Why?
