Satterfield's great, but what about Gary Dobbs? I wish I could find the video of him doing that rap from 20 years ago...ridiculous...

Speaking of weather, can you imagine how Huntsville weatherman Dan Satterfield would have reacted to the crazy storm that came through here last week? He would have had a freak-out melt-down on the air!

As a Prince of the Midwest Chapter of the Zulu Krewe, I too would cyberly join the New Orleans is Awesome Awesomest Club as long as it bars admission of any Midwest coward who
during Chicago's mayfly lifespan summer,
complains that it’s "too hot" or "too humid" in this more of an ice box than a city.

And in support of this grand endeavor, let me inform all cyber members that the best Bouillabaisse to be had in this tundra city can be had at a bisto La Sardine. I had a chance to partake of it last Friday and found it extremely credible for the Midwest, although not as good as my own.

Please do not share this information with non members as they will appear on dates wearing matching cubs jerseys, turning their noise down at what is not McDonalds, and of course leaving small tips as is thier custom.

Regards,

Yer Spook

You know, I was stuck outside for last week's "tornado" and was pretty non-plussed after experiencing the "Tornado of '89" and several NOLA hurricanes.

Having lived all 3 places, the summer humidity ranks

New Orleans > Huntsville > Chicago

Winters? The other way around.

Anyone else lament the "paving of Jones Farm"?

Oh yes, Chik Fil A, Waffle House, any pit BBQ, Sonic... *sigh* I would venture to say that Japanese and German food is as good in Huntsville (if not better in some ways) than what you can get in Chicago.

This past winter was pretty nasty, but so far the Chicago winters haven't been too bad, IMO. Once it gets to 20 degrees, it all feels the same. And I laugh when Chicagoans complain about the humidity or freak out over thunderstorms (although this last one was a doozy).

Ha! That's true. Most Huntsvillians wouldn't know what to do with a Chicago winter. Although winter down there isn't a real treat either. 33 degrees and rain is never fun. Give me snow over that any day. And I always loved how just the threat of snow the next day would shut down schools. Milk & Bread! Milk & Bread! lol

I've never lived in New Orleans, but I'd join the New Orleans is Awesome Awesomest Club! I love that place.

I'm sure you don't miss the humidity, but the Huntsvillians don't miss not having to brave sub-zero temps for 6 months out of the year. Is there a New Orleans is Awesome Awesomest Club up in the Windy City? Could call it the Windy-Crescent-Connection!

I think a Rocket/Windy City lovefest is definitely in order. And what I miss most isn't really a Huntsville-specific thing: Chick-Fil-A. Damn. Everytime I make it home (twice a year at most) I go to the Chick Fil A at Airport & Whitesburg and get some Chicken biscuits. If it's Saturday, I get an extra for Sunday.

Greenbrier definitely has the best hushpuppies. Especially when you dip them in white sauce. Mmmm, fried southern food.

UAH (or UAHuntsville as they now like to be called) still has a great hockey team as far as I know. I haven't followed them as closely as I did when I was in school there, but I know that they were in the Division 1 finals against Notre Dame within the last year or two.

We just went back to Huntsville to visit some friends a few weekends ago. While I miss the food and friends, I do not miss the humidity at all! I'd forgotten how miserable it is when you can't even walk to your car without breaking a sweat.

Oh, and the new building housing the Saturn V at the Space and Rocket Center is pretty awesome!

I'm more of a Greenbrier girl, myself. I need to order some bottles of the Gibson's white sauce. I know of some other Huntsvillians in the Chicago area. We should start a group or something.

Lawlers is good, but give me Gibsons any day. Are the Chargers still putting out a great hockey team on the ice?

I'm beginning to think we need to form a Rocket-to-Windy-City Club.

Anyone catch Huntsvillian Margaret Hoelzer win a silver medal last night? Good friend of mine Toyin Augustus (GHS c/o '97) runs for Nigeria in the 100m hurdles on Sunday!

Ha! I just moved here from the Rocket City in December. I didn't go to high school there, but I did attend UAH. And I was a counselor at Space Camp. Ah, those were the days.

Anyone else miss Lawler's Barbeque?

Whoa, I think you and I went to the same high school (I'm class of 1998, though). I'm also a fellow Huntsville-to-Chicago transplant. I love it here!
