Barry Callebaut's Chicago Chocolate Academy Names Head

2008_02_callebaut.jpgThe Barry Callebaut Chocolate Academy is set to open next month in the Montgomery Ward building (600 W. Chicago Ave.), its first academy in the United States. Today Callebaut announced that award-winning pastry chef and instructor Jerome Landrieu will head the Academy.

Landrieu has a resume that includes two first-place awards at the 2006 Chocolat by Pascal Caffet competition, top honors the Salon du Chocolat in Paris and a semifinal nod at the 2007 Meilleur Ouvrier de France competition. The Meilleur Ouvrier de France is one of that nation's most prestigious craftsman awards; Landrieu has apprenticed under three winners of the "Un des Meilleurs Ouvriers de France."

In addition to his duties at the Academy, Landrieu will also serve as an ambassador for the company's Callebaut (Belgian), Cacao Barry (French) and Carma (Swiss) brands. [Previously, Chocolatier to Open Academy in Chicago]

So it's weird to be illegally reading Chicagoist at work and then see your company's logo show up. But at least when people walk by they'll think I'm working.
