This Week's Outdoor Movies

2008_8_12.touchofevil.JPGThe Park District plays movies just about every night, so if you're big on al fresco viewing...enjoy.

  • Tonight: Touch of Evil
See Orson Welles's noir masterpiece as he originally intended; this recut version follows instructions Welles gave in an apparently long-lost memo.Grant Park, free, starts at 8:25pm

  • Tomorrow: West Side Story
Say it loud and there's music playing; say it soft and it's almost like praying. If it's been a while since you've seen the classic, refresh your memory, if only so my "let's rumble"/snapping jokes make sense to more people. Indian Boundary Park & Cultural Center, free, starts at 8:30pm

  • Thursday: The Right Stuff
Celebrate this season's One Book, One Chicago pick with this excellent movie adapted from Tom Wolfe's book of the same name. Sam Shepard, Ed Harris, Dennis Quaid, Barbara Hershey, and Fred Ward star in this vibrant historical drama about the early days of the space program. Not cheesy! Grant Park, free, starts around 8pm
