Vanessa French of St. Charles has won the next best thing to actually living in American Girl Place - a ridiculous playhouse the size of many Chicago studio apartments. For several months, a replica of American Girl Kit Kitteredge's home ("Kit's Home On Abbot Place") was on display at the John Hancock Center and fans could purchase raffle tickets to win the house. The French family spent $20 on tickets and out of the 3,500 tickets sold, 2 year-old Vanessa's name was chosen. Raffle proceeds supported Project Playhouse, an event conducted by Home Aid that raises money to build homes for local homeless families. The 15-years-ago me would have been so jealous. Present day me would be annoyed at having to special order a semi-truck, operate a forklift and build a foundation for this 7,000-pound prize to be functional. Ah, the things parents do for their child's American Girl needs...[S-T]

"Vanessa" is way too normal of a name to win an American Girl house. those parents are gonna have to trade up.
If only 3,500 raffle tickets were sold, and the proceeds went to charity, I can't imagine that there could have been too much left over for charity after paying to have that house built.
For crying out loud, I just paid over $200 to have someone patch a couple of holes in some drywall in my basement...how much would it cost just for the LABOR for that awesome playhouse?????
@Ingrid: Fortunately, HomeAid isn't stupid so all te proceeds went to charity. The house was donated by Pardee Homes
The company that makes that house actually makes a LEED certified playhouse!

That's kind of cool actually.
the girl is TWO, though. aren't her parents (or a nanny or something) going to have to spend a lot of time in the house with her if she's to enjoy it? it's not like you can just say -- okay, honey, see you when you get home from your new apartment. nightmare.
That's nothing. We stayed at a b&b in Austin that just purchased a tiny home from here:

It was cute and totally livable!
