New Chicago 2016 Commercial

The Chicago 2016 Committee unveiled its new commercial, narrated by CSI's William Peterson, a Chicago native. The copy is rousing, positively busting with civic pride, etc, etc, but man, that stock footage looks cheesy.

Whoever wrote that deserves a pultizer (or whatever ad people get). That was some excellent ad copy.

This was a beautiful commercial for a wonderful big city. I can't help but feel that having the Olympics would ruin a great thing.

I happen to live in San Francisco. I grew up in Chicago and spend time there every summer.

Please Chicago...stay the way you are....

Wow that was awesome! Man I love this town.

I'm "suprised" that Mayor Mumbles didn't narrate! Oh wait, I forgot we want to highlight the good parts of the city not the nepotism and corruption as it actual exists.

Lew Lazare was right in today's Sun-Times that a lot of the visuals were provincial junk.
So the most important stores on Michigan Ave. are Tiffany [from NYC], Chanel & Louis Vuitton [from Paris}.
Was there nothing local to use?
And I had no idea that Taste of Chicago was a neighborhood festival!
And I seriously doubt that the IOC members, most of whom are minor royalty or billionaires or both will be impressed with that boring ethnic dancing, by children forced into it by their parents, that the city inflicts on a public that is usually outnumbered by the dancers most summer weekdays at the Daley Center Plaza.

That was really excellent copy.

Can't even begin to express my objections to the Olympics coming here, but that was some well-written copy about this beautiful city.

that was very well-done.

really nice copy and the perfect, friendly-midwestern read from william petersen, but those visuals are so 80s travelogue. c'mon guys, make this city look as dynamic and cool as it really is! (or hire someone who can...)

Did a lake cruise with a business associates from New York last summer that had never been here before, and he said, "I was surprised it's so big, I thought it would be more like going to Boston." Preach it, Griss!

The ad was good until about the 2:50 mark, when I was asked to imagine the Olympic games in the heart of the city and I suddenly got really bad stomach cramps.

I agree that the copy was brilliant, but there wasn't a single interesting shot in that entire clip.

Still, I really love the "surprise" angle. People are always surprised when they visit me in Chicago. Unfortunately, it is usually because their expectations were really, really low.

"Its clean, I thought Chicago was supposed to be really dirty."

"But isn't the crime really bad?"

"Isn't it really cold?" (ok, that one is true, but these are the summer games)

Yep, that looked totally cheesy, but what great sentiment. Man, I hope we can pull this off.
