The Planets at Pritzker

2008_8_19_holst.jpgChicagoist has had a bit of a love affair with Pritzker Pavilion this summer, but that’s mostly because the Millenium Park events calendar has been stuffed with so many fabulous free events this outdoor season.

Another tasty upcoming event that caught our eye: the Chicago Sinfonietta will be performing Gustav Holst’s seven-movement orchestral suite The Planets this Friday at Pritzker. The performance is touted as “a legendary sight and sound spectacular”, as the symphony will be accompanied by a video suite – projected on a giant screen – from Adler Planetarium astronomer and visual artist Dr. José Francisco Salgado.

We already know we love The Planets, but we are further intrigued by the accompaniment of the video suite. Seems it’s an original and exclusive graphic design creation, timed for the tempo and tone of the orchestral suite. Neat-o!
