The Longshots, A Movie Based on Joliet Girl's Life, Opens Friday

8_20_2008_chicagoist_thelongshots.jpgJasmine Plummer has the best excuse out of all her classmates for missing the first few days of school at Joliet West High School- she's in Los Angeles shopping, dining, riding in limos and attending the premiere of The Longshots, a movie based on her life. When Plummer was 11 years-old she made Pop Warner youth football history when she became the first girl quarterback to lead a Junior Pee Wee team to national competition as quarterback for the Harvey Colts. Keke Palmer (of Akeelah and the Bee fame) will play Jasmine and Ice Cube (of NWA fame) will play her uncle/coach based on Fred Johnson her uh, uncle and coach. The film is written by Nick Santora (Prison Break, Law & Order) and is directed by Fred Durst. Yep, Limp Bizkit Fred Durst. Awesome.

The Longshots opens Friday nationwide. Jasmine, our new local heroine, hopes the movie will give her a better look at colleges as she hopes to play basketball at a "good school." [S-T]

a Fred Durst Joint ...

just doesn't have the same ring to it.

This movie looks absolutely terrible. Seriously, who would go watch this?

I hope this movie does not get confused with the great foosball movie "Longshot" starring one Leif Garrett, circa 1981.

:-)

Archie (can I call you AH-Chee?) probabl the same people that went to see a movie like Are we (word) Yet?

Tangentially, I just looked at the wiki entry for Ice Cube and he's slated to play Mr. Kotter in a 2009 movie rendition of the series. They could've at least picked like, David Cross or something who played his son in the somewhat funny movie "The Grand".

By his son I mean the guy who played Kotter originally.

Ice Cube... the guy helped write Straight out of Compton and F*ck the Police and now he's doing light family comedies and inspirational movies.

I Love 'Merica!
