The 77-year old Woodlawn landlord who was allegedly set on fire by an ex-tenant earlier this week has died as a result of the incident. Harlan Hayes had burns on over 90 percent of his body and died early Sunday morning. Police have charged 28-year old Donald Hardy with attempted first-degree murder in the attack.

shouldn't he be charged with murder now?
Not only should the charges be upgraded, but I think prosecutors and police have monitored the landlord's condition, and planned their case for both charges. This guy has probably been evaluated mentally. Dousing someone with gasoline and then lighting them is definite premeditation. Someone should have told the guy that you forfeit your deposit when you get evicted. Kind of sort of pays for the legal fees and clean up and whatnot. Doesn't matter now, because we'll be paying his rent at Pontiac for the rest of his life. Whoever felt that cruel & unusual punishment should replace eye for an eye was a little pussy.
That's just crazy and shitty. Who thinks "Oh, I haven't paid my rent in months, let me throw gasoline on my landlord and set him on fire?"
