The jig may be up for alleged serial bank robber, Scott “Time Bandit” Carlberg. Orland Park native Carlberg, 44, found himself at the center of a police bust Wednesday after the FBI linked him to a TCF Bank branch robbery that occurred in New Lenox early February 2007.
Turns out Carlberg left two “bait bills” with prerecorded serial numbers from that branch in a storage locker the FBI traced back to him; DNA testing on other items in the locker matched Carlberg’s.
Dubbed the “Time Bandit” for his insistence that victims count to 300 before notifying the police of his departure from the scene, Carlberg currently faces one charge of bank robbery, though the police suspect him of at least 11 more bank robberies committed in the south and southwest suburbs since 2005. If he had any self-respect he'd have arranged to get gunned down in front of the Biograph theater.
I never thought of Orland Park as a breeding ground for bank robbers.
