"Son"-set Jazz at Millennium Park

2008_08_sonnyrollins.jpgGet lost in jazz master Sonny Rollins' sweet saxophonic stylings tonight at Millennium Park.

The self-proclaimed "Saxophone Colossus" will bust out the ditties that landed him a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award – among other accolades – and propelled him to the ranks of his most noteworthy contemporaries, Miles Davis and Thelonius Monk, at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The performance opens up the festivities for the 30th Annual Chicago Jazz Festival, and it’s FREE! Also, this man / myth / legend is almost 78 years old, so catch him while you still can.

Sonny Rollins to open the festival and Ornette Coleman to close...with 3 days of talented musicians sandwhiched in between. Gonna be a great weekend!!

Getting down super early today to grab a front and center seat and get ready to have Sonny blow my mind...

Folks-

This show is huge. And the Ornette Colemen show is even bigger.

I put these 2 shows up there w/ BB King @ Bluesfest and Bunny Wailer @ Reggae Fest.

Seriously- give ups to the City for these 2 shows. They're putting the Jazz Fest back on course.
