Finding Your NFL Team

2008_09_03_nflmaps.jpg

The NFL season is upon us and, thanks to one dedicated fan, it's getting easier for us to figure out which games we'll be getting on local television each week. Don't feel like dropping $30 for food and beer at a sports bar just to catch Brett Farves' debut as a Jet against the mighty Dolphins? Wondering if the Bears' prime-time slot means you finally get to enjoy a Saints' game (Who Dat!?!?) from the comfort of your home? Well, you're in luck. Website The506.com has been mapping the weekly television coverage for years and this year has enhanced it's television coverage maps with a Google Maps plug-in for those who want to know exactly where that cut-off line is. Of course, the local affiliates have the right to switch things up on us and choose another game before kickoff, thus the list at the bottom of the map that expands as the week goes on. The site also includes a list of that week's nationally televised games.

weird, i had just emailed someone looking for this map earlier today. it was pretty handy last year for me.

He's done this for years, and it comes in VERY handy for those of us who don't have the Direct Ticket. Thanks for the link! :)

Yeah, it's a great site. I like that he added Google Maps this year.

ESPN has similar maps for College Football at Their GamePlan site.

But those "subject to change" captions are for realz: they had Chicago getting the Bama-Clemson game on ABC (SEC FOOTBALL! WAR EAGLE!) but instead, we got Michigan State-Cal. Makes sense, regionally, but differed from the original map.

hold on to your shorts, people....

the detroit lions have are 4-0 in the preseason!

no, i'm not drunk and yes, i did say that.

Marcus: I heard somewhere that Michigan State fans lobbied to get that game shown locally. It does make sense, but as a Big 12 fan, I feel your pain of not getting to see a game you want.

xlprq: Actually, it makes perfect sense to show the Michigan State game here, given the region. But I had my hopes up that I would get to see a big ACC-SEC Matchup. And I'm too wicked poor for ESPN GamePlan. Thank Goodness that RCN carries ESPN360 online. That thing is a Godsend. Woo! Go Auburn!
