IL GOP S-A-D

As everyone gears up for Sarah Palin's big speech tonight—I for one have never been this excited to hear an Alaskan governor's address—members of the Illinois Republican delegation are "banished to the farthest, most unnoticed corner of the hall where the Republican National Convention is being held." The Illinois GOP is apparently "weak and demoralized," and struggling to find strong candidates and a clear party mission, especially for a 2010 gubernatorial campaign. [Crain's]

any body else thinking "trailor trash"?

Exactly what I was thinking. It's like the Mayor of New Lenox (or some other shitty local town) is going to be next in line for the president. Cue the banjos.

Oh, they should fit right in with the national party then.

"Cue the banjos."

consider that stolen, the Chicago way,
thanks!

Laugh it up. One reason the state Dems are able to do much damage and fight themselves so much is because the state GOP is so freaking pathetic right now.

Spook: Abe Lincoln was trailor trash, too, at least in the 19th-Century way. Just FYI. Did not know you were such a snob about class. Thought progressives were above that stuff.

We Republicans have a pathetic group of state GOP legislators who are unable and unwilling to step forward and take on either the Democrats or the entrenched GOP old boys network.

Why was the Illinois GOP even allowed inside the convention?

They should be brought outside and used to test pepper spray.

I don't know what's more S-A-D. The fact that the Illinois GOP can't do anything with minimal candidates, or that the Illinois Dem party can't do anything more with the state than the GOP- even with their current stranglehold on the state, and themselves!!
The pendulum will swing back, don't worry. We'll see both roles reversed in a matter of a few short years. And Blago will be behind bars along with Emil and hopefully Todd Jr..

The Illinois GOP is a sad thing. Their opposition is so stunningly corrupt and yet they can't seem to field a candidate who doesn't implode or have "Children's Clown" on their resume.

And as talented a man as Ambassador Keyes was, making balloon animals for the kids just ain't gonna cut it.

Yeah, Palin's really Honest Abe material................... I wonder how he'd feel about her wanting to ban books at her town library.

@ Navin...good point about Honest Abe.

But.......I wonder how Palin feels about Lincoln being counsel to slave owners, and protecting slave owners rights early in his career.

If she's a typical Republican I'd imagine she'd be cool with that.

maybe, she will lone us some ducktape, to tape broomtilda's mouth,

I'm sure Palin would have been a Lincoln supporter early on, you know "less government" and "states rights" or as they say "states raats"

cue the bangos and on the count of three!

Anyone who mentions Abraham Lincoln in relation to modern republicans is simply not up on their history. Lincoln waged a war to preserve federalism, something the modern party claims to oppose, except where it pushes their moral agenda.

Sarah Palin versus Abraham Lincoln? Palin's "I'm a hard-working soccer mom" narrative against someone with actual intellect, leadership skills (Read "Team of Rivals" by Doris Goodwin to see how brilliant Lincoln was at bringing smart people together) and no need for speech writers?

Did you ever see that old cartoon "Bambi vs Godzilla?"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpBkc2jK-6w

Here's a hint, she's not Godzilla.

Given the shitty Democratic leadership around here (Hello Mayor Daley, County Commissioner Stroger, and Gov. Blago) you would think the Illinois GOP could handily win some elections. Talk about a testament to poor leadership.

Oh, and most "progressives" on here are caring Democrats trying to help all Americans until they see someone different from them. Then it's all trailer trash this, yuppie dickwad that, suburb idiot, and on and on.

Dear god, can some of you people ever look past the lint in your bellybuttons or past your own supposed superiority and group-think? The comment was merely in response to the trailor-trash snobbery, not a slap on the back for Palin, nor a comment on the modern GOP. The point of the comment was merely this: Beware class snobbery, for you never know who came from low origins. That is it.

Learn to read and think, not assume or assign motives. Thus endeth today's lesson.

Classic,
A disingenuous lesson on snobbery concluded with a snobby and arrogant statement itself.

Congrats, Navin, you pointed out a psuedo-irony yet managed to avoid addressing the point and the BS argument you tried to toss out. Again. Nice example of evasion, another lesson for the kids today.
