Meeks Ends School Boycott

State Senator Reverend James Meeks called for the end of the CPS student boycott last night after two days, instead of the planned four days, of protests.

"The governor stated that he would not meet until the boycott was called off, so we are going to not only call his bluff but trust that he keeps this word," Meeks said. "We trust that the governor is a man of good will and good sense."

Meeks says he thinks the boycott was a success, given how many people are talking about education funding disparities in Illinois. Governor Blagojevich hasn't actually committed to meeting with Meeks, and Mayor Daley and CPS CEO Arne Duncan have stuck by their opposition to the boycott. [AP, Trib, S-T]

Oh well, it would appear that Mr. Meeks has wasted his 15 minutes of fame on a really misguided adventure. The whole concept seemed flawed to me.

"Let's protest the inequity present in school funding by keeping our kids out of school!

Yeah...that makes a lot of sense.

"so we are going to not only call his bluff but trust that he keeps this word"

Does this guy even know the Rodster??????
