Yes, our Thursday night sitcom dreams might come true. Oprah is in final talks to guest star on NBC's 30 Rock this fall. Rumor has it that she is slated to appear as herself in the season's second episode to air November 6. Further speculation notes that she will be playing all her scenes opposite Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) and it that her story would also play into a feud between Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) and Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski). After Tracy Jordan hosted the Source Awards as Oprah, and Liz Lemon declared Oprah to be her religious adviser (above), we hoped it was only a matter of time before Ms. Winfrey herself made an appearance.
In other 30 Rock guest star news, Will Arnett will return as Jack Donaghy's nemesis, Devin Banks, on the season premiere and Jennifer Aniston take the role as Liz Lemon's ex-roommate later in the season.
30 Rock premieres on Thursday, October 30 at 8:30 p.m,, finally injecting smart humor into our lives after a summer of garbage programming. [Trib]

Stroger Makes Hollywood Play

From time to time, I think all the guest stars that 30 Rock trots out tend to sabotage the show as a whole (particularly Tim Conway and David Schwimmer last year.) It just makes it uneven for me - still a good show, but sometimes wasting the potential of the cast for weekly cameos that aren't nearly as funny.
I completely agree with the David Schwimmer appearance- it was miserable. But. BUT. B.U.T. How good Elaine Stritch as Colleen Donaghy? Her appearances added a lot to the dynamic of the cast in the episodes she appeared in. Probably why she is nominated for an Emmy for it and Mr. Swchimmer is not...
Oprah gives me gas, errr is it okra? Either way I wish Liz Lemon wouldn’t do this. Oprah diminishes everything, (look what happened to Obama after she named him one of her favorite things) and now she is going to diminish the quality of 30 Rock. BUMMER
Tc3:
Usually I'd agree with you, "special guest star" stunt crap is the stuff Will and Grace (shudder) was made of.
But thus far on 30 Rock they've made a point of getting the guest to either play something truly demented (Carrie Fisher and Steve Buscemi) or made a gag of the whole thing (Seinfeld vision) thus ameliorating concerns of a devolution into "This week Hannah Montana!" territory.
The show that gave us "mind grapes" really can do no wrong.
Oprah, Obama, or Osama. I don't care. Compare 30 Rock to anything else out there. I'd rather be subjected to eye gouging than watch another episode of New Christine or According to Jim or anything with Charlie Sheen. 30 Rock really stands out not only in the barren landscape of current sitcoms but also when compared to the cannon of the 30 minute format. The writing is tight and the humor rapidfire. I'd even watch the "MILF Island" spinoff!
For the record I am a huge fan of off kilter sitcoms. In no particular order:
Arrested Development
Always Sunny in Philly
Curb your Enthusiasm
Flight of the Conchords
30 Rock
Extras
The Office (UK, but Dwight Schrute makes US version bearable)
30 Rock made me like Tracey Morgan. 'Nuff said.
