Our Picks for Oprah's Book Club

By Margaret Lyons in News on Sep 10, 2008 10:18PM

Oprah is gearing up for her next book club pick, which she'll announce September 19. This gives us plenty of time to get our hopes up. Here are some of our suggestions for OBC picks:

  • Margaret: The Origin of Species, by Charles Darwin. Science literacy! It works if you work it.
  • Ali: Sissy Nation: How America Became a Culture of Wimps and Stoopits, by John Strausbaugh. Disclaimer, my godfather wrote it, but it's good.
  • Ana: Blink, by Malcolm Gladwell
  • Rob: Man In The Dark, by Paul Auster. It's a short, sharp book and I loved it.
  • Lauri: Dispatches, by Michael Herr. Since we're still at war, and it's election season, and all. Or Nickel and Dimed, since we're still at war on women's rights, and Sarah Palin's a phony feminist, and all.
  • Marcus: Carry Me Home : Birmingham, Alabama: The Climactic Battle of the Civil Rights Revolution, by Diane McWhorter. Is it asking too much to hope for something that just doesn't suck?
  • Tankboy: Infinite Jest, by David Foster Wallace. Just because it would tickle me pink to see that monster tome take over every seat on the CTA.
