Photos: 2008 Hideout Block Party

This year’s Hideout Block Party had it all: blues, world music, stoner rock, deep country blues, puppet shows, political dissidents, robo-rock, the return of Neko Case in two guises, and a punk rock marching band. In-between all of this the organizers managed to mix in voter registration, political discussion, and a drunken spelling bee. The amazing thing about this whole package? Its whole purpose was to raise money for various community centers, primarily in the interest in improving the lives of area children, proving The Hideout truly is striving to create a sense of community through the arts.

Did anyone notice the TERRIBLE sound production for NEKO? all i heard was Neko's voice, very dry, and drums. I was standing next to the sound booth where they were all running around trying to fix it... they never fixed it.

New Pornographers were great as was Robbie Fulks.

I give the rest of the band selections a "C". Quite a boring event for the Hideout IMHO.

hot mess. i think i JUST realized the full meaning of the it.

that, and alcowhore.

sigh.

i felt like this year's Block Party went back to how it was several years ago--i.e. not a hipster 'i'm so cool, i can't show i really like this band by actually moving to the beat' outing like it seems to have been the past couple of years. or, let me revise--at least saturday seemed that way, i can't speak for Sunday since i wasn't there.

Not as much money for the charities because of that, but selfishly, a way better time for me! even if i didn't absolutely love all the music, i greatly appreciated the mix of different genres!

I receive a ten percent commission every time the word "alcowhore" is used. So learn it, love it, repeat it.

The rest is yours, I thought.

Alcowhore.
Alcowhore.
Alcowhore.
Alcowhore.
