Extra, Extra

- After all the huffing and puffing, a group of bar owners with establishments by Wrigley Field agreed to the controversial alcohol cut-off after the seventh inning of series-clinching games.
- In case you somehow missed it, today's bailout failure pushed the Dow to its biggest drop ever. Also, Lynn Sweet has a list of how Illinois' reps voted today. Seven Dems and two Republicans voted yes, four Dems and five Republicans voted no, and Jerry Weller (R), was the only member of the entire house that did not cast a vote.
- Beware taking the Red Line tonight.
- Well, that's one way to raise a few bucks for the CTA: expand the merchandising market. But $17 for a coffee mug?
- For the third time in a week, workers at a Round Lake Beach K-Mart were taken to the hospital "for symptoms that included loss of consciousness." What the hell is going on over there?
- And to think we were siting on our asses watching the Bears game last night: several old Second City alums, including Harold Ramis and Judy Morgan, made a special appearance/ performance at last night's free improv set.

And, bars participating in the cutoff would be able to resume alcohol sales after the 9th inning if a "clinch" game goes to extra innings.
for crying out loud. what the hell is two innings going to do? are they going to kick people out? serve them only diet coke and red bull without the captain morgan and/or the vodka? this seems ridiculous, and actually i think will increase people trying to sneak liquor in places ... the lovely flask and such.
either that, or people will try and get super hammered so it will last them a couple of innings.

RE: CTA merchandise
I see they brought back the every popular CTA map Shower Curtain! Now I have to choose between that one and bacon, dammit.

Re: Dow.
Uh, no. While it was the biggest point drop, it was not the biggest percentage drop, which is the measure that really matters. Even the AP article makes note of that. Granted, still a crappy day for everyone who owns stocks, which is most of us. [And it is "its," not "it's".]

Love how the Trib can't even get it together enough to hyperlink to the CTA store in that "breaking news".

re: Wrigleyville ban
Wow. As a business owner, I'd be pretty disappointed to be told stop selling my most profitable product at absolutely the most profitable time in the year. That'd be like telling Nordstrom to close from 5pm to 7pm on Christmas Eve.
Reeks of Chicago politics. bribes, blackmail, whatever, whatever.
