Get your rock in early with free shows this week, kids...

2008_10_brilliant.jpgMonday, Oct. 6

Brilliant Pebbles @ Empty Bottle w/ The Chinese Stars, Dead Gods, and Awesome Brothers, 9:00 p.m., FREE - With roots in psych punk, electronica, and the calculated sonic freakouts of a band on the brink of forging a new path, Brilliant Pebbles are an assault on the bland predictability of today's "indie" music that wouldn't have been out of place on the Bowery thirty years ago.

The Hood Internet and Prairie Cartel @ EvilOlive w/ Yello Fever, Team Bayside High, and Heaven Malone, 10:00 p.m., FREE with RSVP - Chitown mashup princes The Hood Internet hit the decks at EvilOlive's weekly Rehab party with dance rock staples Prairie Cartel.

Thursday, Oct. 9

Cougars w/ Stnnng and Head of Skulls! @ Beat Kitchen, 9:00 p.m., $8 - A quick listen to Cougars' swirling, encompassing rock makes it easy to picture eight (8) dudes sweating like fuck all over a stage as small as that of the Beat Kitchen. Tight, tight rhythmic interplay and some sweet, frantic horns give Cougars a leg up on your average aggro punk band.

To compare Brilliant Pebbles to any of the psych-rock groups of any era is totally incorrect. I saw them live and the were aw-ful. I left with a huge headache. You couldn't convince me to go back and see them for free or for a handful of Imitrex.

The horn players quit Cougars a while back, so I think it's only 6 sweaty guys these days.

Ah, thanks for the update.
