City Parks Bank $1.6 million Thanks To Lollapalooza

Has it really been two months since Lollapalooza? Feels like it was just yesterday. What did happen yesterday was the announcement that the annual music fest brought in $1.6 million for the Chicago Park District, an increase of $400,000 over last year's take. Said Parks Supt. Timothy Mitchell, "They put on a great show." Indeed. Promoters agreed to cover the cost of repair to the park as well as the cost of the police protection while the Park District was guaranteed $1 million or 8.5 percent of the total take. A total of 225,000 people attended the fest in Grant Park this year, which featured the fest's first sell-outs in its history.

just remind me next year not to drink those full bottles of wine in the plastic cups as if they were beers!!!

And then the Park District spends the same $1.6M about ten times over (from Sun-Times):

Funds from this year's Lollapalooza will help pay for a new soccer field at McKinley Park, Buckingham Fountain restoration and summer camps for special-needs youths, among other efforts, Palm said.

What about the boondoggle over the soccer field in Lincoln Park? Where did that $2M come from?
