This recent use of the previously-dismissive term 'Joe Six-pack,' and the fact that Son Volt will be playing here on Sunday (and I can't go -- damnit!) reminded me of their great song from a couple years ago, 'Joe Citizen Blues.' mike thoms: it's remarkable how many of my friends seem to have an outright HATRED for the woman. it's something i've never seen before. i've never even heard people talk about W. that way. and re: michelle, ingrid -- yeah. i know. that's what i've been saying to people this whole time about them. that they're classy. they're refusing to play the same kind of game that mccain/palin are. and i think that's another reason why they're ahead. my mom, who lives in WI and who was previously undecided before the first debate, said things like 'i liked the way he [obama] complimented him [mccain]." she thought mccain was 'mean and cruel,' and that really bothered her. so, not everyone sees that as a good thing.

I ditto mike thorns contempt for Palin, and I do know some repub friends who feel the same contempt for Hilary. But I've got to say, that when I was watching Michele Obama being interviewed by Jon Stewart the other night it almost brought tears to my eyes, not because of anything she said that was overwhelmingly meaningful but because she was so thoughtful and kind and really generous towards McCain. What a counterpoint to Cindy McCain who is spreading her vitriol and lies. Michele Obama, as well as her husband, really know how to stay above it all. Michele is the woman who should be First Lady. No doubt about it.

But Joe Six Pack isn't even a new term. It's been around for a long time. And usually, it wasn't meant in a flattering way. Must have taken that long for it to make it up to Alaska.

I don't think I've ever hated a Republican as much as I hate Sarah Palin...I imagine this is how the Conservatives feel about Hillary Clinton though.

Joe Six Pack is to 2008 what Soccer Mom was in 2000. A stupid, irrelevant dempgraphic that gives fodder to the talking heads as they give increasingly unhinged commentary in a "first past the post election". We will never hear this term again.
